Default wont start, crank, or even click

I have 98 4.0L xj. I was packing all my school stuff in it yesterday to drive up to school. I had to move my subwoofer and amp out of the way and when I did that, something sparked. I didn't see exactly where it came from because the amp was behind the sub but I checked the circuit breaker type fuse that I have from the battery to the amp and it didn't trip.

I disconnected everything from the sub, radio, and battery and tried starting my car, but it wouldn't even click. When I tried starting it again, it clicked and started to turn over for about an eighth of a second and then stopped. The next time I tried starting it, it wouldn't even click.

I replaced my NSS last year, but thought that might have went again, so I tried starting it in neutral, but still nothing happened. I tried jumping it, but again nothing happened. Sometimes it would click when I turned the key, other times it wouldn't even do that.

I needed to leave so I could get to school before this storm hit, so I just left it home for my brother's to try to figure it out and took my mom's car.

They told me that they got it started by jumping it, but as soon as you take your foot off the gas, it dies.

I have no idea what this could be. If anybody has any ideas or knows what the problem is, please help. Thanks

I guess step one would be yank the battery and go have it tested.

Is your battery old? I had two bad cells in mine 3 Weeks ago did the same thing. Replaced battery, problem gone. could be a possibility.

Sounds like maybe a short, or others suggested a dead battery...maybe recheck all of your amp/sub electrical wiring?

Check spark, pulse and fuel pressure. And get your battery checked. If it don't crank at all it could be your starter. If you can get it cranked over but no gas maybe fuel pump?
