Default Worn Differentials?

So about a month ago we had a big storm here in wisconsin, and i figured what they heck... so i went out and subsequently buried my jeep so it was basically floating on the snow. I put her in 4 low and only one side (front and back) was turning. Is there something i need to replace in the diffs that would make both sides turn? The truck has 175k probably very abused miles on it.

Nope, you have Open Differentials which come stock on almost all Cherokee's. They send power to the wheels with the least traction in situations like that, most useless thing in the world to put on a 4x4 and yet Jeep did it.

cheap lunchbox lockers worth around 250 each will fix that up for you.
you won't even need to reset your gears, just remove the spider gears and toss in the lockers.

lock-rite and aussie are two good lunchbox style lockers. very easy to install and you will get true 4 wheel drive.

I think to take the cross pin out you have to remove the ring gear on a d30, but its still not a tough job removing the carrier

yes, you do have to pull the ring gear on the front d30. but yeah, it's still an easy job. however, you're not supposed to reuse the ring gear bolts, but at 10 bux a bolt, i wasn't about to drop another 80-100 bux.
