pretty much all the same motor. you just have to use all the sensors from your 98 and it should work just fine.

any way to get rid of the ac compresser. My ****s on r12. And my windows work just fine. I've looked at the belt routing and it doesn't seem like there's away around it. But some one on here had to of done it before.

I was thinking about buying this XJ. What do you guys think? I'm kinda worried about this..."Does go into gear with a thud when you first come out of park." What would cause this and should I be worried? I'm new to the whole Jeep stuff. Just asking the pro's.

Hey fellas, new to the site and I've got a question to help me fix my baby. I don't have a lot of experience working around vehicles (read as none) so this may seem as a silly question.
Recently my '91 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 Straight 6 over heated. I've left it alone for a few days and have just started trying to mess with it.
When it over heated the dummy light came on and I pulled over as soon as I have the opportunity too, I popped the hood and the engine was steaming but there was nothing visible leaking and nothing had been leaking before or since it over heated (which makes me believe that it is a high pressure leak.) the other odd thing is that the plastic overflow tank still has plenty of coolant.
Some of the people that I have spoken too seem to think that the issue I'm having is due to a bad thermostat but for the life of me I can't seem to locate the darn thing.

I have some problems with my 98 XJ Sport.
One that seems to come and go is when driving, I step on the gas and the engine seems to sputter a bit and if I let off the gas and depress the pedal again it goes away. Anyone had or have this problem and how did you remedy it?
Another problem is every bump I hit, the front end seems to pop. Seems like it comes more from the passenger front side. Any suggestions?

Well there is two ways but i only recomened doing it one way. First off why you getting rid of the ac compresser? Well I would recomend putting a pulley in its place that doesnt have anything on it that will bolt right on for you. Another choice could just take it out and buy a smaller belt but i dont recomened that one.

When my Jeep was sputtering I had to put a fuel cleaner in and a new fuel filter and the problem went away. As far as the popping your front end is probably in need of work.

Should I be worried about the THUDding? What could be the problem and what can I do to fix it? Should I even consider buying the thing?

Okay one line goes to a little nipple like thing on the side of the intake manifold, and the other one I cannot follow well enough to see where it attaches to, but it goes down the fire wall on the drivers side (you'll notice in the picture both the lines go over to the drivers side) once it reaches the bottom of the firewall it turns in towards the back of the Jeep and disappears, maybe it goes to the t-case though I don't know why it would. My heater and controls still work when it is unplugged, and it's big vacuum line is one of two vacuum lines that attach to the side of the intake manifold. By "side" I mean the drivers side of the intake manifold, on the side, below the throttle body. And I don't think my Jeep's ever been licensed in California, it is in Km's and still has "Crowfoot Jeep" dealer stamp on the back, which is where it was bought brand new by the previous owner. It was made in the states though, but I think all 99's were, there was only one plant in Toledo pumping them out I think (or so the internet says). I'll try later to trace the second line, I'm at Uni right now and I get weird looks when I pop the hood in the parking lot and tinker during my breaks I'm cool like that
