Yes. My jeep has the same problem. Turn the wheel untill you can't feel the lock anymore "even if that means forcing the power steering by manually turning the wheel" then push the ignition switch hard into the Collumb and turn with the wheel and switch at the same time. That always works with me. If this doesn't work then just go ***** out and remove the terminal ending from the steering Collumb and hot wire it, then use the engaged power steering to wiggle it loose.

More than likely, you need to put more pressure on trying to turn the wheel. Try both ways. I thought mine had done the same thing, but just took more effort in turning the steering wheel. GL.

I got a question...

On my 99 , the hazards only work when the jeep is off. If its on, in P or anything, they work fine for a second, then start buzzing intermittently, and then just buzz and don't flash. Anyone know why?

Mine wouldn't budge no matter what. So I beat the key in the switch with my linemans pliers and it worked, the replacement switch is 64 dollars and change a advance auto parts.

Check the part at the bottom of the column that has linkage running to it from the ignition switch (tumbler) mine when out an this happened... Ill give you the right part name when I get home

Hey, I'm on several internet forums, but this is the first place in the Jeep forum where I've been able to find a button to post anything. Maybe one of you guys can steer me in the right direction.

I have a 91 Cherokee Laredo, 4wd, auto tranny, tilt steering column. The nss switch is screwball. I replaced it once with a new one from a parts store that was as bad or worse. Finally, put the oem switch back in. Obviously the engineers did not intend for it to be serviced, as I have tried more than once, and cannot get it adjusted correctly. It works ok when it wants to, but tends to get horsey in cold weather. Turn the key to start--nothing. Move the shifter to neutral, jiggle it around and hope you hit a hot spot. Ok, what I want to do is put in a push button starter switch, but leave the present setup as is. In other words, I don't want to do anything cute, just have the starter button there when the normal nss switch won't work. I'm assuming I'll have the ignition switch in run position. One question: will this work? Next, which terminal on the solenoid should I wire to, and is this the best way, or can I simply splice into wiring present at the nss?

Oops. Sorry dudes I confused the nss with the ignition switch. What I mean is the ignition switch that is mounted on the lower end of the steering column. When I went back and looked at the manual, well you know I feel like the horse's behind.

Theres a way to bypass the NSS, you might wana look into that

Did you clean the NSS out good and make sure you installed it back properly and test it afterwards. Also aftermarket one aren't always the best, OEM stealership is where to waste money on a new one.

Secondly, bypassing it is good a temp to get you to a place to clean or replace yours. If you bypass you won't have back up lights and its just not safe to keep it unless its a trail only rig

I need new tires. My rims aren't the best either. If I could find a gently used set of rims/tires (235/75/15) I'd buy that. Do people ever buy wheels/tires off Ebay? Is the shipping just too crazy to bother? Or is the only real option Craigslist? IF not, I'll just get $100 tires at the local tire warehouse.

Cheaper in my area zjs anyway, wjs are a little more than xjs around here.
