I'm running one cause my stick mechanical fan had no shroud and was starting to crap out so I bought an electric one for better cooling

Changing thermostat tomorrow
Lossen the belt
Take hoses off
Avoid hot coolant
Unbolt housing
Removing old thermostat
Clean surfaces
Place new thermostat in
Apply sticky gasket and a little rtv
Put everything back together.

wiring in parallel doesn't change the voltage...so i fail to see how it'll give you high speed unless the fan has a separate high/low power terminal.

well a circuit breaker doesn't change the amps either. Relays, circuit breakers, switches, and fuses are "pass though" items.
You need to add resistance to the low speed side. High speed = full voltage, low speed = reduced voltage.
