I plan on contacting Rough Country about the issue, but wanted to get a feeler here first. I have uploaded a few pics to show the issues. I am pretty sure this isnt normal for the spacing to be so odd.
Looks like your control arms are adjusted out to far. They look adjustable but I could be wrong. If they are adjust them in and your coil will sit straight up and down.

we just got our jeep cherokee XJ.. came out from someone else's storage garage..
it's engine had been converted to a diesel engine (NISSAN RD28)...
we're not sure if the automatic transmission was converted as well..but the lever inside is still original cherokee..so we're not sure whats under it..

the problem:
it can't run any faster than 20MPH.. and it doesnt have any power at all..
>>can't even make it up the driveway

the mechanic's theories:
1. the computer box wasn't removed or isn't functioning properly.. due to the conversion..
>>> do automatic transmission cars have a separate computer box for the transmission?? or does it go along with the engine's computer box..

2. the clutch lining inside the transmission is worn out..and needs an overhauling kit..
>>>do automatic transmission cars still have a clutch?

what to do..help please!!

According to the HAYNES Manual, blower motors for 84-96 Cherokee's are mounted on the engine side of the firewall. Held in by 3 screws. I figured yours fell into this category since the "water tank thing by the firewall" is the surge bottle, and it's not used in later models.

For the past few days my '89 Cherokee has been having very weak-sounding starts, like it's really struggling to do anything. It sounds like when the battery in something is just on the verge of dying, but the battery is 100% charged. The other day it quit entirely -- I can still use the lights, hood light comes on, fans come on, but when I turn the key fully nothing happens, not even a starter click. I need a new starter, right, or could this be something else?

I can't say this enough: The best tool any self-mechanic could own is a voltmeter, there's a step-by-step proccess mechanics use when a car won't start called, "First Things First" by Veeger Enterprises. I'm taking an automotive class that is teaching us how to use it. 99% of the time this simple proccess pinpoints the exact reason a car wont start.

Bottom Line:
Everyone should have a voltmeter in their toolbox.

It is your switch that controls whether the passangers or just the driver can operate the windows and door locks. The switch goes bad. I and others have just overridden it.

Here is a link that will explain all and gives a few ways to correct it. Read them all and pick the one you like the best.

How much should new ones cost? I want a small lift kit with shackles but I shouldn't put that on fatigued springs right? Or can I? Anyways cheapest I've found so far is around 180 for a pair, then HD ones are more expensive, they have an extra leaf... is this worth the extra money to buy HD leafs? Because they might last longer? Any input?
The HD leafs won't last any longer that the standard leafs.....about 10 years before they again begin to sag. The advantage to the HD leafs is you can ditch the rear sway bar and get better articulation. I just purchased a standard spring for $200 ea. The HD spring is about $250. I have standard on the 89 and experience bad wheel hop. I have HD on the 88 (with no sway bar) and no wheel hop. Go HD or stay home!

A friend gave me a set of wheels for my 96 xj. I put them on and didn't notice until later that my originals were actually wider. I'm not concerned about it, except I think my tires may be a little too big for the more narrow rims. The new ones are 15 x 7 steelies, and my old ones were 15 x 8. I have 235/70/r15 tires on it. Anyone think there is a problem with this? I have no added lift and only intend to use these until I can sand/paint mine. I've been amazed how much knowledge there is on this forum, and you guys have already helped me overcome problems when I replaced shocks and steering dampener.

Thanks for the help.....

I have a 30 to 35 mile trip to work one way every day, and dont want to miss any work because of snow, ice or roads being out. I live out an about, so Im not garanteed good or even paved roads. I love jeeps used to have an 05 wrangler, but had to sell it to pay for the moved to kansas for my job. Can anyone give me a little more clarification other than, that just dumb duh. Please. Thanks and again sorry for the stupid ?. Ill try not to do it again.

If you have a NP 242 transfer case (with the 4wd full time position) you can drive on every pavement. If you have the NP 231 (with the part time 4wd) you can drive on slippery surfaces only, that means if your way to work is all covered with snow you can, if not then you can't.
