XJ Ask the Question Thread
Jeep was cold, little high on the rev. I could do another clip if someone asked when its warm. But, I am happy with the power gain. My buddies TJ has a Flowmaster, and it does sound deep and good. But, I was going for power gain.

I want to replace my exhaust just because it appears to have been on there for a while. If my newfound noise is a exhaust manifold crack Il replace it with a header. On your exhaust I dont think they flared the pipe to slide them over one another, might of just but welded them together. If I can do that then it would save a lot of time and also I dont have to risk the muffler or cat cracking while I attempt to flare them.

How do I release this clip? I have numbered 3 sides.
I was able to press down and unclip side 2, but this didn't release the clip.

I believe this is the precat/upsteam O2 sensor.
I could only see one.
Is there one or two on an 1998 XJ?

Does this sway bar bushing look bad?
The "end link" part looks insanely rusted. Replace it? Dangerous?

It is that clip in figure two, it releases either by pushing it down or pulling it up and wiggling both connectors. Try pushing it down and wiggling it, they should seperate. Also that other picture is infact one of your two o2 sensors, thats the "upstream" o2 sensor. Your "downstream" o2 should be screwed into your catalytic converter, or just behind it.

That high pressure line does not get disconnected, those quick release tools should fit your ac/tranny lines and your fuel line. Also from what I can see, which is only the very edge of the bushing, but it doesnt seem cracked or worn. Your sway bar link bushing definatly shows age and should be replaced soon. Mine completly cracked after a while and fell out. Id remove the two bolts and check the main sway bar bushings though, they arent expensive to replace. I bought a prothane polyurethane sway bar bushing kit for $25. Be careful with those two bolts, try to spray them with pb blaster or wd 40, also try to spray into the frame rail so it hits the bolts on the inside.
edit: also beware when removing the top nut off the sway bar link that its very easy to snap the stud off the sway bar link, mine did that and they didnt appear to be as rusty as yours. Rather they break or not, Id suggest replacing them since they are only around $10.

Press that tab either to the right or left (if thats the coolant overflow tank on the left push the tab that way and it should slide out about half way. Once it slides as far as it will go, press the main clip down on the connector and pull the two apart. When putting it back together, press the two connectors together until the main tab snaps into place. Then press the clip that slides out halfway until its fully seated again.
