Depends on how much money you want to spend and effort you want to put into it. An 8.8 will require spacers or different rims as it's slightly narrower, new spring mounts, and new shock mounts. It's a great axle though.

A cheaper route for the axle itself, if you're going to beat a little less on it, would be a 29-spline C8.25. KJ discs will bolt right up (also have the 8.25), ZJ discs will fit with slight modifications.

I'm not totally sure on this but I think aftermarket parts for the 8.8" are more common.

What do y'all think of a 3" entry level lift kit with AAL from rough country. I know it's definitly not the best and full leafs would be better but I can't spent toooo much on a lift and for $300 it sounds good to me! Not wanting OME quality, just something to make it look nicer. Opinions?

Thanks Salad. If I end up just swapping brakes, is the 27 spline adequate for 33's? Thought about 35's but leaning towards smaller.

KJ (jeep liberty) disc bolt right up to the 8.25 rear?

Iron Rock Offroad has a lot of what you would need

35s definitely no, 33s not sure. If you did that I don't think you'd be able to lock it. It's basically a D35.

Yup they came with the 29-spline 8.25 with coil buckets. Same or similar shock mounts which means that once the JY morons rip the rims off it's not sitting on the rotors. Fuel injectors are also a firect upgrade for 99+ XJs

If anyone has any suggestions before I go back to mechanic, or go insane, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

First thing I'd have tried was buying a new battery...

that's so not accurate lol. The main issue with d35s is the ring gear and housing strength.

I run 33s on a locked 27-spline 8.25 without issue. I won't however upgrade to 35s with that setup.

It depend what type of driver you are also. If you're all about the skinny pedal you're going to blow up pretty much any 3/4 ton or smaller axle...

I see lol. I assumed that everyone stomps on the skinny pedal here, but you're right and it makes sense if I think about it... I should stop posting when I'm not awake in the morning haha

On my YJ, the week point was the spider gears. Toast. First trip out, trying to go over a good size rock. Went with the 8.8 after.

Happy with my 32" on my 8.25
