Take off the roof rack completely. Once removed located the screw hole where the rack was mounted closest to your lights you're mounting. Drill through using progressively larger drill bits. Eventually you'll take out the threads as well. In the interior take off the sun visor and the plastic trim all along the headliner on the drivers side. Get your fingers under the headliner and pull down slightly enough so you can feel the hole you drilled. Slide the wires through, under the headliner, under the plastic trim and under the door weatherstripping to behind your dash. Put a dab of silicone in the hole to make sure no water gets in and put the rack back on. You'll still have at least 4 screws on that side and at least 5 on the other so it will definitely stay on plus you won't ever see those wires
Perfect thanks you

I did that on a buddies 00 xj. Just drilled into the original cross members on the rack, mounted the lights there and ran the wires through the cross member to the drivers side. I'll take some pics tomorrow if you'd like.

Default rubicon wheels on xj

I have put a 3" suspension lift on my 2001 xj, and have bought a set of rubicon wheels and tires 255/75/17. Will they bolt up without adapters. Thanks Steve

Don't think so, pretty sure you'll need adapters. I'd like to to say 4x4.5 to 5x5.5. Don't quote me on that.

07-new rubi or Moab wheels need adapters to go from the XJ's 5x4.5 bolt pattern to a 5x5 bolt pattern. Rubi wheels from a TJ (04-06) will be the same bolt pattern as an XJ, no adapters needed but those are 16 inch wheels. Your 17's probably do

07-13 wranglers are bolt pattern 5x5. All XJs are 5x4.5. If you can find Moab wheels from a jeep TJ then they'll bolt straight up

so i just bought a 96 sport and have a few questions. i've done some searching but i feel like it will be easier for me if i have everything in one place to possibly get some answers.

anyways, first up is my coolant temp guage is not working at all. there is a plug hanging near my lower rad hose and i'm curious if this could be causing it. i know the main temp sensor is on the t-stat housing and everything looks okay there so i'm not sure if that's the problem. anyway here's a pic of the hanging plug:

second question: are xjs (particulary 96ish ones) notorious for headlight switch issues? my headlights work but my tails and gauge cluster lights are not working. i feel like it's probably a switch but i wanna make sure i'm starting in the right place.

third question: is the parking brake adjustment in the rear with the brake assembly or under the console with the lever assembly?

thanks guys!

1.) that goes to your e fan that is missing

2.) need to check voltages with a meter to be certain of what it is

3.) check the e brake tee under the XJ. Main cable runs into a tee that takes a 13mm socket to adjust how loose or tight it is

x2, the T is the adjustment for the E-brake. However if you're having problems out of your E'brakes now when they worked perfectly before you may want to check if your rear brakes are adjusted properly. To test this, lift up the rear wheels of the xj and spin them by hand. They should have just a tiny bit of resistance on them from the brake, just enough to keep them from spinning and spinning freely. Brakes these days usually have self adjusters that adjust by some means (most i've seen is by driving in reverse and applying the brakes) however, I have personally never had luck with the self adjusters doing their job..

But all this is mostly unnecessary if your able to make your adjustments through the tee under your xj.. So i would go that approach first if you are having no problems from your rear brakes.
