Arrrghhhh!!!
The wiring on both my Jeeps is beginning to fail!
More things not working....or working slowly!
Very poor ground distribution design!

Does anyone make replacement wiring to replace the original wiring??
Either that or I'll be replacing one wire at a time.

is there anything that i can look for to help me determine if the TCU used to be integrated with the ECU..?

ill try out that shifting in 1-2 postition..
the regear sounds like a good idea..where can i get the new gear ratio?
old: 1987-1995

facelift:1996-2001

you can buy the gears on e-bay, but you got to find out wether the rear axle is a dana 35 or a chrysler 8.25.
Regarding the TCU, my bad, it was never integrated in the ECU on XJs, it was on ZJs (grand cherokee).

The Peugeot BA10 was only used until mid 1989 so you have the Aisin Warner AX15.

Don't worry, it is practically impossible to remove those brackets without snapping the bolts. Drill holes where the bolts used to be and buy some stainless steel bolts to put instead.

Also ever sense i have had this XJ it has seemed to shift to 2nd gear a little slow or soft (long ) shift.. any ideas or is this the norm for the AW4?
Thank you so much for the help..have a great day!
Pretty much common on old AW4s, solenoids get stuck when it is cold. Drain the excessive fluid.

The NP231 was called NP231J when AMC was taken over by Chrysler. It is the same TC. Important is that the donor jeep has the same tranny as yours, cause the input gear might be different.

New strips can be purchased but they are hella expensive.....like $40 each!
yeah i gotta read all before answering...you guys rock..

There are replacements available, but they're either hard to find or not worth it. Get yourself a roll of 8 GA. wire and some sandpaper. Replace the wires and grounding hoops where they look like crap. Give the area the ground attaches to a good buff with the sandpaper, and reattach. You could even smear some dielectric grease between the body and the contact.

If things are starting to not work well i would start with the main grounds of the system, those being:

1. Battery - terminal to fender
2. Engine block to firewall (right behind valve cover - note that this ground requires a special copper braided cable)
3. Interior fuse box to body

Hey guys, My son has a 91 xj that the tilt steering is moving about 6 inches every wich way I bought him a steering column out of a 96 (That was already pulled) and was told it would fit right in but looking at the wireing harness on the 91 its under the dash, the 96 plugs in right under the key. It does not look like it will match up. Or do you think theres just a harness thats missing? Maybe I just need to go to pick a part and see if they have a harness that goes from under the key down under the dash. I dont know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If not no worrys.
Thanks

It won't fit, you have to find a pre '95 column (without airbag) possibly without tilt aswell.

"Wobble steering" appears to be a common problem. LOL. I just fixed the same thing on my 90. I went to Pull-A-Part and bought a column out of a 91, only to find out the blasted thing was 3/4 of an inch shorter. Everything else was identical. Had to wait a few weeks until they had another good one, so I got one out of an 89 and it went right in. I checked lengths on various years (87-95), and the 91 column was the only one that was shorter. Still haven't figure out why...
