I created a thread for the following question for others sake. But what you you think?

*****************

2001 XJ Sport

So, My tires are rubbing on those stupid rubber matts in the fender wells. Well, one came loose and as I looked, theres a gap that I can see behind the panel. So long story, short, can it be pulled down without any adverse effects?

Alright. Because I'm due for a trimming and I wasn't sure how the rubber linings come into play.

I trimmed mine short with my fenders. Kept them to keep rock salt and such out the insides the fenders as min as possible. Just cut the fronts a lil higher than the bumper.

Most people take em out when they start to fall, you'll get more mud in your fenders but it wont hurt anything. Just make sure to wash em out after wheeling so they don't rust

Trim and clean reguLrly and you should be fine. Mud finds its way everywhere anyways even the engine bay. Extra mud may get thrown into the back of the headlights and doorjam without just a heads up

We used a stock u bolt with grade 8 washers front and back. I stood on it and it held up great. Were going to take a 2ft long plate of either 3/16in or 1/4" to help strengthen it, better than nothing for now.
