Check a local parts store and see which battery for the cherokee has the most cca. maybe optima?

Yes that's frequently the case. Same story with an Odessy ($289) vs. Sears DieHard Platinum ($189), as well as Johnson Controls, Exide, Deka - all the real brand names make the "low end store brand" stuff.

Though, for what it's worth, with guys like Walmart sometimes the battery will be cheapened to meet a specific price target (build-to-spec, see Champion Labs making the low-end FRAM OCODs as well as higher end filters), however another trick is just by working margins, volume, and warranties.

Interstates are good batteries. Have you considered an alternator upgrade?
