It's been too long since I worked on passenger vehicles, but you used to be able to put a paper clip between I think the a and b ports on the diagnostic plug and get your blink codes. Not sure which OBD system did it though.

Only vehicle I have ever had to do that with was a Suzuki tr1000r

You don't have any "OBD". Renix engine management didn't throw codes

Correct. It's the spacing between the back of the mounting surface to the edge of the rim. 0" backspacing is basically a bowl with some holes cut into it.

1991-2001 came with the High Output engine, however stay away from 2000-2001 due to the bad 0331 cylinder head. The HO engine is better however Im sure an 89' 4.0 will work fine.

My 4 banger is putting out about 400hp, i'd say that's plenty enough to call it a jeepspeed jeep

But for real, most of us that buy 2wd jeeps buy them with the intent of doing a 4wd swap. Hell i got mine for $150 bucks with 106k on it, couldnt turn that down.
