Plug #3 out of a 2000 jeep cherokee 4.0L. The engine stopped running last night while towing a trailer. Check engine light came on blinking, sputtering started, ran very rough for about a mile, then died. Now I can't get it to turn over, even with the plugs removed. I have not tried to turn the crank manually, or back it up.
Plug looks like there is something loose in number 3, valve broke off or something. Anyway:
Worth trying to fix? What Do I do next?
Thanks for the help...

What do I do next? I plan to pull the oil pan as mentioned before, but what else?

Have a 1988 jeep Cherokee 6 cyl 4.0 4 wheel drive
I have a rear main seal leaking and need to replace it
i have been told that you can pull oil pan and go through there and change out seal without having to pull tranny
because the seal is a 2 piece
Was wondering if anyone had done this and could
share any info or suggest ens or warnings.
thanks in advance

UPDATE: here are pictures of what's under the valve cover.. I can't see anything too alarming, but I don't look under here often. Nothing is loose or appears to be broken, missing, etc. the ONLY alarming thing is that there appears to be coolant mixed in the oil.

Since I have the valve cover off, i have not tried to crank the starter- for fear of causing more/possible damage.
There is some coolant in the oil-- one local shop thought possibly a torque bolt got loose somehow or something-
Or if coolant got into engine maybe there was some hydrolock of some kind...
I think there is something broken or bent - there has to be something to cause number #3 sparkplug tip to bend over like that..
So the engine isn't siezed technically, but it doesn't exactly "turn over"
