it gets better
thanks for that, i got more details here
keep in mind that i am not a mechanic, and alothough i would love it
my jeep is not an offroad monster with 33inch boggers
she takes my wife to work... that's about it
so here's what i did with her since i posted my problem
i've checked the engine oil and it smells like burnt coolant
little whisps of smoke came out of the cap on top of the block
the smoking from the side with the intake and xhaust has subsided
i let her run to try and dry out whatever i got wet
(i soaked every thing trying to flush the coolant out)
she now starts like a dream and idles decent enough
but the throtle seems a little unresponsive
she hesitates when i pull the cable and then revs out like normal
i'm getting almost no pressure in the hoses with the engine going
my lower hose to the water pump looks like it's sucked closed
i can't figure that out
and now she ticks like she wants an aoil change
she still stalls out when brakin in gear
and i need to make her go
as i said i poured a bunch of time into her in the last 2 weeks
mostly to correct a squeek and grind noise when turning
that was the bearing and ujoint...
the tires were way past due...
after that i thought i was homefree
then the water pump went
now after doing what should have fixed the porblem
she hardly runs
the plugs are from mmarch 09 (the plugs wires and alternator all at once)
i know i'm missing something simple
and i know someone know what it could be
there's a lot of boiled down coolant stuck to the walls of everything i can see (inside hoses and overflowbox, radiator cap)
i wonder if she just needs mor flushing and burped
how would i purge air out of the coolant system?
and would that even cause these problems
help

another question.. what axle and gears do I have on my 98 2wd classic? I can't find a clear answer. Also if any 2wds came with a towing package mine was not one of them.
I found a d30 front for sale with 3.55s and steering and stabilizer

You could go that way but before you get into that I would get under the dash and fabricate some smoother flowing air ducts. I think you would see an improvement that way and it won't hurt to have done that even if you do still need to do some fan fabrication. I have a 95 and used some smooth alum. tubing for most of my duct work replacments.

stupid tc
hey there,
ok so i have a 88 wagoneer its has a 242 tc and it wont shift out of 4wheel drive, im pretty mechanically inclined but not with these transfer cases, so i took it to a local jeep guy, he crawled under and said well i can tell u right now ur in 4 i said i know it wont shift out of four so he checked my linkage (which i already had done) and said none of my gears are hitting right, he explained to me that obviously my tranfer case has been redone or opened recently because of the rtv seal. He said what it seems like is whoever took it apart put the shifting hub inside the transfer case backwards which is a common mistake.... idk where that is or how to get to it or if thats even worth spliting my t case apart and going through to find this thing, i have done quiet a bit of research thats why im on here nervously asking because maybe someone would know... any response would help right now thanks.

If it's full time - you will be fine with it like it is, but you may still want to fix it to regain the rest of your gears
If it's stuck in part time, you will definitely need to open it up and see what's going on. You cannot run in part time 4x4 on dry pavement.

Thank you Dukie!
Just got my Jeep out of the shop, holy crap was it needed!
Had to replace the Driver-side:
U-Joint
Bearings
Hub
The mechanics at the shop let me watch and explained what all they were doing-
I got to look at my bearings.. good gravy! One set (I believe inner) looks like ground up pepper mixed with some whole pieces in a black soup, and the individual caps.. wow- one was missing a few little rods, another; about half, and least and worst.. there was one cap that was bare and actually broke off a piece of it...
When we lifted the vehicle, we took the driver's side tire and shook it!
Anyways- surgery completed, and that solved my 4x4 issue- I took it down to an old stretch of gravel and dirt road and tested the steering in forward and reverse.. it was glorious control.
So again, thank you Dukie for your advice, you were right on the mark!
Jeep forever!

Fender Question
Is there an easy way to reinstall the plastic fenders back on? 99' 4dr...
Took them off to bedliner them, and no matter how hard I try I can't pop them back on.. I have to be missing something..
Step by step would be great, ADD here...
TIA

We put in a 3.5 RE lift on my 01 Cherokee today. But it also has rear shackles from the previous BB lift, so the back is around 4.5 inches high.
When I first test drove the Jeep there was a crazy amount of shaking. Couldn't drive it like that. So we put 1 inch transfer case drop. It got rid of most of the vibration during acceleration, but it was still bad during deceleration.
Would just a SYE fix all these problems? And is that the fix I should go for?
It has np231 transfer case if it makes a difference.
Thanks

You also absolutely need to get an alignment also since you lifted it geometry will be way off.
