Default 97 cherokee charging issues

My son has a 97 cherokee that has been plagued with an intermitten charging problem. The check engine lights comes on and the amp meter will only show 9 volts. 2 weeks ago we pulled the alternator and had it checked out, and it was fine. We cleaned all battery terminals, and wiggled, and tested all the fuses in the box, (passenger side inner fender) and they all checked out. We started it up, and everything worked fine. Amp meter read 14 volts, and the check engine light went out. Yesterday it started all over again. Don't really know what to do next. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks again. Rocky

Have you had the battery load tested?

What does the voltage read across the battery with the engine running? (With a DMM, not the stock gauge)

I run a Advance Adapter SYE with a Tom Woods shaft now. I run a stock front shaft as a spare and it works just fine.

I do street mine but I also set my leaf spring perches up myself with the correct pinion angle.

Either way, you may or may not need shims depending on how the springs are curved and how they sit.

I didn't have the battery checked, it's a new battery. I won't have access to the jeep until this weekend, that's why I'm trying to figure out to do next. I'll check the battery load out, what kind of readings should I be looking for?

Sounds like either there is a poor connection between the alternator and battery, or the alternator diodes are starting to fail (thus why it's intermittent).

A new alternator should solve your issue

With the engine running you should have between 13 and 14 volts.

With the engine NOT running you should have between 11.8 and 12.5 ish.

The difference between the two should be obvious.

Woooaaah... Nasty! Did you do a fluid exchange with the pump or just drain the pan? If you did a drain & fill from the transmission itself you only got about 4 of the 8 liters of "fluid" in there (torque converter and cooling hold the rest)

Yea I just drained the fluid, im goin to do another fluid change this weekend. Just trying to clear it up a bit before I go and get it flushed. I've heard doin it with old fluid can cause debris to.clog in the valve body. After a couple changes it should be good to go with a flush. I hope.......
