quick question: if i put on one pair of leaf shackles will it lift the full amount? or, do i need 2 pair? example: one pair of 6 inch shackles only give 3 inches of lift, two pair give full 6 inches....

FYI: 98 stock xj sport

thanks...for this simple thread...

you should never use 2 shackles on the same side.

Default 30in. tires with no lift?

Hey anyone here put 30x9.5s on a 96-98 grand cherokee with no lift? I think it would work as stock tires on a 97 grand are 28.5x8.5 so its only an inch farther into wheel well, and .5 inch wider on each side of tire...

I had 31" BFG AT's on stock Wrangler rims on my 93 Grand. They rubbed slightly on the plastic fender shields in the front, but after taking a dremel to the fronts and trimming about a 1/4" off they were fine. Of course at full lock they would rub on the lower control arms, but they did that on my 95 Cherokee with a 3" lift too after I gave the Grand too my kid. Here's a pic...

ya i understand that, but looking around at the many different lift optios out there...it looks like my logic may be fuzzy...

2 points of spring attacment per axle; 1: 6 inch shackle; axle placement at half the length of distance from fore and aft attacments...so total actual lift height would be half of rated height.... 0.5(1x6)=3

is that right?

I have a brake drum question.. I took off my left rear drum and a piece fell out. Its got a cable (broke) and a flat piece of steel with a spring in the middle of it. I see where the other end of the cable is attached but I don't see wher the piece of metal and spring go. Any help? Thanks!

Hey how hard of a mod was that? Did you use one from the same year? I would really like to do this but I don't want to get in too far over my head. Oh and where did you pick it up?

My son just rolled my 89.
How much do you think the insurance will give me for it?
I have $5,500 worth of receipts ... not counting all the time I put into rebuilding it these last few months.

It was really simple and there's a great write up here somewhere, just search "overhead console" and you'll find lots of info...I think a similar year would be the easiest way to do it, but I've had the console for a couple years and was just gonna sell it (have no idea what year it came from), but then I bought this 95 that didn't have a console so I hooked it up. Be sure to get the wiring, front and rear mounting brackets and the sender located under the front bumper (along with the wire going up behind the battery). The wiring simply tied into the wiring under the passenger side kick panel. Then the sender clips into a wire behind the battery...You have to cut your headliner to fit it, but there's a really great write up here that gives all the measurements...

Here's one of the good links: http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoOverheadConsole.htm

That's the self-adjuster cable. It's likely that it was not correctly installed to begin with). The attachment points are: the "eye" at one end of the cable goes on the top-center post (behind the two return spring-hooks attached to same), cable passes over guide (should be mounted to rear shoe with one return spring end anchored through it), and, as for that "flat piece of steel with the spring in it" - that attaches to the scraper which rubs the adjuster wheel at bottom of the assembly. At the very-least you will need a new adjuster cable only (approx $7), but a new spring kit (approx $20) plus a cable is recommend.
