I was afraid you'd say 1/4". Looks like I'm going to Sears in the morning for another socket set when I get off work.

I changed my instructions to include the bolt size:

Renix Jeep C101 Connector Refreshing

The C101 connector on 1987 and 1988 Renix Jeeps was a source of electrical resistance when the vehicles were new. So much so that the factory eliminated this connector in the 1989 and 1990 models. The factory recommended cleaning this connector to insure the proper voltage and ground signals between the ECU and the fuel injection sensors. We can only imagine how this connector has become a larger source of voltage loss and increased resistance over a period of almost 25 years. The C101 connector needs to be cleaned at least once in the lifetime of your vehicle. Chances are it’s never been done before.

Almost every critical signal between the engine sensors, injectors, ECU, and some to the TCU, travel this path through the C101 connector.

The C101 connector is located on the driver’s side firewall above and behind the brake booster. It is held together with a single bolt in it’s center. To get the connectors apart, simply remove the ¼" bolt and pull the halves apart. You will find the connector is packed with a black tar like substance which has hardened over time.

Take a pocket screwdriver or the like and scrape out all the tar crap you can. Follow up by spraying out both connector halves with brake cleaner and then swabbing out the remainder of the tar. Repeat this procedure until the tar is totally removed. This may require 3 or more repetitions. Wipe out the connectors after spraying with a soft cloth.

If you have a small pick or dental tool, tweak the female connectors on the one side so they grab the pins on the opposite side a bit tighter before bolting both halves back together.

I always appreciate feedback so I can improve them.

The TPS one, while accurate, needs simplification.

Default blower motor fuze keeps blowing

Its now cold and with a 2 year old in the car it bothers me that my heat went out. It started a few months ago, the fan would make a lot of noise when it would turn on, then it would only work on high. Now it doesnt work at all. I checked the blower motor fuse and found it was blown so i replaced it and the heat came back on. But curiosity got the better of me and i wanted to see if my lower settings worked, they didnt, but when i switched it back to high it blew the fuse again. Replaced it again and then even without changing the speed it blew out. so now im worried that i might have a deeper problem. any tips where to start, that maybe doesnt require a mechanic, im low on funds and would really love to be able to fix this problem myself. help?

I figured it out, and that was only my second time using a multimeter.

Actually, a basic how-to for multimeters would be a nice addition, I think. I'm sure there are quite a few out there, but a link to one explaining the functions could be helpful.

Also, I've seen your posts on several forums. Do you keep them all up to date? I can't get on CF at work, but I could proofread all your stuff tonight for spelling if you PM it to me or post it on JF.

I keep it up to date on CF. You'll notice revision dates at the bottom of most of them. I will have the C101 one updated tonight. JF doesn't have my stuff. NAXJA gave me grief when I tried working with them. Comanche Club has them. I wouldn't mind having them on JF, exactly as they appear on CF if they're interested.

Usually when 1-3 settings don't work and 4 does, it's the blower motor resistor. But, since yours is blowing the fuse, it could be the plug on the back of the switch has melted. What year is your XJ? I just learned that the earlier models up to 96 were prone to melting.
