Iv got an 88 4 dr xj, the door locking mechanism isnt properly latching. It closes but doesnt lock into position. Is it easier to replace the locking mechanism in the door itself or find a doner door and just bolt it up?

If i need to swap the door what year doors have the same panels and everything that my 88 has?

Iv got wing windows and power windor and locks.

Check the screws around the lock. One of them may have shifted or come completely out. If the lock does not srike the pin just right, it will not catch. Replacing the lock is easier than replacing the entire door. No need to replace the door if the door isn't broken.

Anyone have any ideas?

I think I saw one for sale in Newnan, Georgia. I think it was near downtown Newnan on Greenville Street. It may have been near the intersection of Greenville and Madison Street. My understanding is that it runs and has been there for some time now.

Do you know if the locks can be bought after parket or would i need to pull one from a junkyard jeep?

The door hinge hung a little low and would catch on the pin and i think over time it grooved the pin and lock assembly and maybe thats my issue.

Not sure on the purchase issue, but since it is an '88, I would hunt one from a JY or something. You should be able to find one on the cheap. Compare your locks: right side door in relation to left side door. It should give you some idea about what is damaged. If the pin is jacked as you indicatged, it will not latch. You may be able to just replace the pin. Easy fix. See you can find one on ebay. The are the same going back as far as 1985. I think you can go forward to like '97 or '99.

The upper hinge recently cracked completly loose from the body of the jeep. I had a friend weld it up the best we could. Before it fully cracked it was sagging a bit but everytime you shut it it locked fine. Only a few times it would need a bump with your *** to close. We closed it, slightly lifted it, and re welded the hinge to the body. Now im having issues closing it. Iv got to sit there for litterally 30-50 slams then it finally locks closed. Its more annoying than anything. Id rather just take the damn doors off but its mh wifes daily driver not mine.

Its weird, when the doora open i can easily get the lock to pop and engage. Everytime i push the mechanism up it clicks and locks. But when I close the door it doesnt work properly. Maybe i chould try to bend the pin up or down and see if it helps. I think maybe we welded it a little too high for the pin.

Thanks. Forgot the WJ arms were on that site.

I'm adding those to the list for the DD.
