Alright guys, I need a little of your XJ expertise. Two weeks ago I blew the head gasket. I just got the cash for the parts yesterday. Started yesterday afternoon. I replaced the head gasket, head bolts, valve cover gasket, intake/exhaust manifold gasket, throttle body gasket, water pump, thermostat gasket, coil, plugs, wires, oil filter adapter oring, oil filter and oil. I got it all buttoned up about an hour and a half ago, started her up and she's idleing rough and a little low. I took it around the block and it runs good under acceleration, but dies coming up to a stop sign. I've checked the obvious like vacuum leaks and firing order. Everything apears to be in order. The coolant temp sensor on the back of the block did snap off, but from what I gather, that sensor is for the idiot light and not connected to.the.ecm. The CEL is not on.
Where should I look?

does it have a throtle positioning sensor?, when mine went out in my 91, it would run fine, but when you came to a stop, would idle rought, then die, had to keep foot on brake and apply a little pressure to the gas pedal. it was about a $90.00 part, but that was about 15 years ago

The rubber elbow on.the map sensor looks ok.
Don't see it really being the TPS, it was running perfect before the head gasket blew.
I got lucky, just the plastic plug broke off the sensor.

Hey if any of y'all were wondering - check engine light problem solved -
I had brought the jeep to autozone to get the computer reading. It read "battery temperature" which none of us had ever heard of. Meanwhile I was burning rich on fuel, dashboard gauges were all over the place, and I was loosing about 4mpg.
Changed out the coolant temp sensor, radiator cap, flushed out antifreeze. No luck. I was ready to take apart the serpentine belt and look at the thermostat, which I really didn't want to do because I had a long drive coming up.
Turns out is was this: There is a small round sensor located right underneath the battery. It is flat and circular, bout the size of a quarter, with a pigtail connection below. It monitors air temperature and sends info to the computer. This battery temp sensor had a corroded wire. A new sensor costs $30. Its a simple pigtail click installation, takes 5 minutes. The dashboard gauges returned to normal soon after. I had to get the check engine light cleared with a computer.
Putting this one out there b/c I had never heard of a Battery Temperature Sensor, however finding this little problem saved me a lot of money and effort.

When I start my jeep in the mornings the rpms jump to 2,000 rpm and stays that way for about 5 seconds then levels out at 760 rpm. Is that normal? Also can a bad cam position sensor cause bad mpg

Has anyone found the cv/double cardan joint for the front driveshaft as well as the rubber dust boot at a auto parts store? Trying to find local without having to order offline.

Need Some Help from My Fellow Jeepers
Hey Guys I really need some help here. I just got a 89 Cherokee, 4.0L, aw4 automatic. I am including a pic of something I cannot find in my repair manuals. Its got a vaccum connection and a wire that goes into the wire harness. This thing is located on the inner passenger fender, under the coolant overflow bottle. The vaccum line was cut off, so I have no idea where is supposed to connect to.

Hey Guys I really need some help here. I just got a 89 Cherokee, 4.0L, aw4 automatic. One of the former owners cut the steel trans cooler lines at the front of the engine block, then used fuel line to connect it to the trans cooler. The lines have rotted and are leaking. Same goes for the power steering low pressures lines, They installed a cooler for it. I have 50 psi fuel hose and was wondering if it was strong enough to use for the tranny cooler lines and the p/s cooler. I can't find referance any where in either of my repair manuals about what the trans cooler pressure is or what the pressure is on the Low side of the p/s.
Also I am including a pic of something I also cannot find in my repair manuals. Its got a vaccum connection and a wire that goes into the wire harness. I changing the 3 u-joints in my front driveshaft and want to replace/rebuild the cv centering ball. Am I best to spend $70 and get a whole new assembly from Oreilly, or go to napa and get the rebuild kit for $50? Heres the kit - http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...617_0157738947 If it not hard to rebuild it I can do that tonight since its in stock, otherwise the whole assembly takes a few days to get.

Howdy folks, I'm having two issues.
My first issue is with my keyless entry. For a few days I had to mash the buttons on my remote to lock/unlock my 2001 Cherokee. I figured it was the battery. Swapped them out with new ones but no good. I double checked the orientation of the batteries and still no difference. Could this simply be a remote issue or is there a common issue with the receiver inside my Cherokee?
PS: I upgraded my headlights with the HD harness and H4 lights. It was about two-three weeks after my upgrade that I started having issues.
My second issue is when I'm in 4wd. It only happens at slow speeds, under 10 mph, but when I attempt to turn at said slow speeds, it feels like the front wheels are locking up. I have to mash the gas peddle for it to go anywhere.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!
