My back up lights sometimes come on when in reverse but sometimes do not. Could this possibly be a wiring problem or is it definitley the nss?

The short answer is "Yes". The NSS controls them and is a common failure so I'd start there.

I would like to post a new thread but i can't find the button for it. Can you please help me? I am starting a new xj project, and i would like to know what everyone thinks my first steps would be and how to go about doing it. Its my first project and im on a limited budget. It will also be my hunting rig so it cant be too extreme. I dont need a fully modded rock crawler just a few cheap easy fixes to make it more reliable in the woods. Thank You

Hey everyone, I've had my cherokee for about a month now, and it has been getting really hot, just at an idle even. I thought it could be a blown head gasket, replaced that. Still gets hot. It's a 1990 so it has the notorious closed cooling system, I've burped it numerous times and nothing seems to work. Now I want to convert it to an open system. Anyone done this before? I could really use a couple of pointers!

Default Clutch replacement and other...?

Greetings,
First I have subscribed to this thread for over a year and have learned a ton about my '97 XJ. This forum guided me through a 4" junkyard lift, DIY alignment curing death wobble. and Ford Explorer Rear Hatch pneumatic mod (pops open!). Thanks to all the contributors!

Question: Clutch failed on my '97 so it's time to replace with new heavy duty clutch. Any recommendations for a clutch and other items to replace as long as I have the transfer/tranny off? Right now planning on clutch disk, pressure plate, throw-out bearing and pilot bearing. Just thought I'd take care of any other potential problems while I'm greased up.
Thanks, Jim

How hot is really hot? And have you looked at anything else?

Do you have an electric fan? Does it work?
Have you ever replaced your mechanical fan clutch? Is it worn out?
Is your thermostat, water pump, etc working properly?
How old is your radiator?
How are you burping the system?

Switching to open cooling won't help unless you replace the troubled part in the process

Also go ahead and replace the master and slave cylinder.

A couple inches of lift. 3 or so would be fine. Take your pick of companies in your price range, just make sure to get a full leaf pack. A roof rack would probably be a good idea as if you plan on hunting and throwing your prize in the back you'll need extra storage room. I'd suggest Husky floor liners front and cargo area to keep things clean. I have them and they're great. Some lights to keep things bright if you bring the game back at night. A good set of tires, probably nothing too crazy. Nitto Trail Grapplers, General Grabber AT2, or Duratracs are some good AT tires. Perhaps a CB if you're in an area with poor cell reception. Just a few ideas.

If they are half inch bolts, then the nuts will take a 3/4 wrench.
