Forgot to add I drive an 01 and I've read that doing the switch mod can ruin stuff. Whats the easiest, rather right, way of doing it on my 01

1. In order to move from 3.55 gears to 4.88 gears in my 97, I will need to replace the carrier both front and rear, correct? D30/8.25.
2. Is this something readily available in the junkyard? What vehicles do I look for? Or better off to just buy new?
3. If I have a locker currently, would it work in the new setup?

You're not going to find the carrier you need in a yard. You're going to need to buy new.

Yes, the locker will work.

I'd suggest "Thick Cut" gears. That eliminates the need for the new carrier.

1. Front Yes, Rear No
2. Buy
3. If it's a lunchbox style yes.

D30's carrier break is 3.55, so you need a new carrier. 8.25 is the same carrier for every ratio

At what point could thick cut gears overheat the carrier?

Default replacing speakers and stereo

I am looking for some information on what i need to remove to get the new stereo in the one in the dash is a after market as well.

What i am looking to know is what to expect i have heard that you need to go in to the glove box to disconnect the antenna as well as to reach the bolt that holds the radio in place.

as for the speakers just want to know is it that hard to take the door covers off to get the old out and the new in?

thanks for any info you can give me.

The antenna connects at the back of the unit. Real easy. As for the speakers, use a wide screw driver to pop the back edge and bottom off. There's also a couple screws in the door that are easily removed. Once you get that disconnected unplug the window and lock harnesses and pop the handle actuators off and you're set.

I said thick cut gears. Not thick cut bacon.

I don't know why larger gears would have any ill effect on the carrier.

Unless, of course, someone is going to make some arguement about leverage... which I think is rather trivial since it's less than 0.125" different.

Lol. I just didn't know if the "larger gears" would mess with what the carrier could handle.
