The first time I turn my jeep on it starts up fine, second it has a bit of trouble and the third it starts up for a second. I have to press on the gas pedal to keep it running. Recently my dad and I looked at what could possibly have been the problem, no luck. Prior to this I had low oil pressure and when I stopped at a red light or to make a turn, I'd get really low oil pressure and I'd get close to stalling. Eventually I did stall out. While under the hood the two hoses connecting to the leak detection pump were loose. I reconnected those and my oil pressure was fine. Now the problem is; having trouble keeping my jeep on. The check engine light is also on. I remember looking up the code that came on the reader and it said something about the fuel regulator? I'm not sure if that could be the reason why.
BTW: I have a 2001 Jeep cherokee sport 4.0L 6 cylinder
Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks guys

Alright yeah, but it won't even start enough to get any smoke. That's what makes me believe that it was just residual coolant burning off. Also, I've read up on the CPS... Could that have anything to do with it?

Didnt you say it was smoking while you tried to start it the next day?

Sorry my bad, haha. I meant actually that it was smoking after I would try to start it that same night... Even after it had cooled off for a while. The engine wasn't smoking but when I tried to start it I would see more smoke coming from under the hood. But then again it could have been steam... Idk what's going on

Can someone explain the different functions of the clutch fan and the other electric fan under the hood?
I was told/under the impression that the clutch fan came on when the coil in the end of the clutch heated up from the radiator's heat and then began to turn and helped cool down the engine? radiator? but mine is always on when the car is running. I just replaced it last night and then spent some time watching my in dash temp gauge and the two fans. When the heater is turned on the second electric fan comes on for about 15-30 seconds and then stops; similarly when I turn the heater off. Dash temp gauge will sit around 210 and then run up to just under next has mark just short of first red section and then drop back to 210 or slightly below.
On the other dash gauge my psi will run up to about 55-60 based on hash marks and then drop to under 30 when at an idle or stop light.
Tstat was replaced yesterday as well with mopar oem replacement, about a month ago I did alternator and head gasket.
I do have a cracked exhaust manifold but that is getting fixed next week.
As you can tell by the question, I know little about the 91 XJ I own but am trying hard to muddle through my /heating up/overheating issues.

Alright. Just thought about this.
Are the linkages from shifter to tcase any different between the 231 and 242?
I'm swapping in a 231 in my 91. This is the first time it occured to me that I should check up on this. I have the donor of the 231 as a parts jeep so I got the parts if needed. Except for the tcase shift bezel. Its nasty and caked up with gunk.
