So I have been watching my fuel gauge and when i get to about an 1/8th of a tank the light comes on. So I keep driving and today when I started up it read I was at 1/8th of a tank with no light.. I'm driving to work and I stop at the light and the needle is now on empty with the light in. When I get to the next light the needle is back on 1/8th with no light.
So I am guessing there is something wrong with the sensor in the gas tank? How hard is this gonna be to fix? Should I do it with the tank empty or doesn't matter? The guy I bought the XJ from said he replaced the fuel pump about 6 months ago. I'm guessing it got screwed up the .

So not really anything to do about it? Just need to figure out when it actually is running low?

Is it possible for my accelerator cable to be loose? Causing me to have throttle response problems. I can go up to the bracket up by the motor and push the cable straight down. How can I fix this? Also could me having to put soo much pressure on the pedal to go anywhere, can it cause bad mpg? I ask that question too much.. I really need to figure it out.. The pedal feels hard to press down when I get to 55 I can barely do the speed limit (65) without hammering down.

Essentially, yes. Only true way to see how much you for sure have left is to fill her up and see how many gallons it takes.. I'm getting in the habit of just filling up when I get to around 1/8 of a tank instead of waiting until I'm empty.

I normally fill up every Wednesday( my payday) no matter what I'm at. Which filling at 1/8th isn't a bad idea anyways. Thanks for the help.

that is pretty much crap, but your far from the only jeep out there getting that mpg. its a jeep thing, youve replaced so much already trying to fix it ,that at this point it your going to start spending more money throwing parts at it than your gonna be spending in gas

Bad pulley= worse MPG?
Im in the process of tracking down a bad pulley and it seems to be the power steering making the noise, but riddle me this: would a bad pulley affect mpg? I have gone from about 309 miles per tank to about 260-285 (city)

A bad pulley will not effect gas mileage in any way
