Sorry to thread jack, but on topic of overheating.
1990 xj 4.0 (W/ open cooling system swap.)
New 195 tstat
New 3 row rad
New waterpump
New hoses
A/c and heater core deleted
New zj clutch fan
Rear of hood raised 1" for cooling
New 16lb cap
Ac condenser removed, (nothing blocking rad)
Electric fan on toggle switch.
Like the previous OP, mine runs fine every season but summer. Az temps from 90-115*f. It can run find on some days and others it can get to 210 and then slowly creep to about 220-230 but even with the electric fan on i cant get the temp down. At stop lights it creeps during those times also.

I believe everything being brand new should be what keeps the temps lower. I cant figure out why once i get above 210 it wont cool itself down.
I have bo problem getting to operating temp but on hot days it goes past and doesnt cool itself down. Its starting to do it and its only 90* here, i know in 2 months when its above 110* it will be doing it even worse.
Maybe a stupid question.. But I noticed I don't have a fan shroud... How detrimental is that? Could that be most of the cause?

Can be a big part of it. At speed air is passing the rad. In "drive thru" mode, air is just moving around the fan and not much is pulling through the rad. I imagine you will see an improvement for sure with a shroud!

I don't know if that last post went through.. Sorry if this is a copy... I over heated 3 times today.. Last time it dumped all my coolant. And ran like crap till I poured more in. It actually scared me cause I thought I blew the head. But the oil still looks good. Today was the first actual hot day so I know its gonna happen again. Normally yes, it stays around 200 210.. But can I get it so it stays under 200?
I have a 95 zj and need to find a radiator from something else that wont hang lower than my bumper. I bust it everytime I take it wheeling. It doesnt have to have a tranny cooler, I have a external cooler.

My 96 isnt having the electric fan kick on. I was overheating alot at the gas station and in traffic and then at home i watched my temp gauge climb and the fan never came on. Is there a waybto figure out whats wrong? Its worked before which is odd, its like it got too hot and it decided to not work.
Also, whats the temp that he stock tstat comes on? I want to get a new thermostat just for peace of mind and to help cool it.

As for the fan its either goi g to ne the fan went bad. The switch went bad or the relay went bad. Start testing.
