Freon is no longer used because of EPA regulations. Supply is dwindling and production has ceased.

At work we have 30lb bottles for the buses. You could probably do like 40 cars with one of them. Lol it shouldn't take more than a lb.

Also, while we're on the topic of AC... mine makes a weird *** noise when it's on... it's really hard to explain. It seems to cool "okay".. could definitely be colder.. I'll try to get a video of the noise later.

No they aren't that expensive. You can buy the little cans at autozone, pepboys etc. Some of the nicer ones have a guage on them too. Maybe 20 bucks if that even. It doesn't take all that much to fill the system. It's easy to do so i would suggest going this route. If you go to a shop it gets expensive though. You can do it right in the parking lot with no fancy tools.

Edit: Damnit, I double post way too much...

We had it "recharged" by the Jeep dealership about 6 years ago, and I don't think it lasted any time at all. Is it not likely that something else is up with it - surely the fan would come on as it should even if there was no Freon??
Please correct me if I'm wrong!

If it needs a recharge, you have a leak. It should be a sealed system. I don't know what's needed to convert. The PO paid to convert my Comanche to R134a, but I'm slowly pulling out all the A/C components.

Renix motor just decided not to start after parked for a half hour. Crank sounded good, strong fuel smell, didn't start. Connections all appeared good. Finally started when applying 50% throttle while cranking. Idling smoothly now at 12V, 160° and 20psi with 1/2 tank of gas.
Didn't try starting in Neutral, but I know my reverse lights don't always come on. Will it crank in P with a bad NSS, or am I looking at something else?
