i recently just purchased a 2000 xj with 79k on it. everything runs perfect but my oil pressure gauge is acting weird. during the test drive it hovered around 40. today i noticed it having a wide range. it would hover around 40 most of the time but dip to 30 and go up to 50-60 at times. do i have the cracked 0331 head? im going to change my oil and see if that helps it.

I just changed the tranny pan gasket, filter, and fluid and ran the same way but after it was fine for a while then it just happened again but I don't think it's those things. I only changed the about 5 days ago. What else could it be?

If it didnt do it before, and the last thing you screw around with was the tranny.. then that would definitely be the first thing you should look at. Check your fluid again.
