I didn't know it was in 4x4, no part-time or full-time lights are on. The shifter, dog lever, 4x4 lever what ever you call it is in 2wd. This is my first jeep, and first 4x4 but I know for a fact it shouldn't have been in 4x4.
It finally made a popping noise and came out of 4x4. But I got it home and went to test it to make sure 4x4 works but the btch is stuck in 4x4 again.

Linkage might need to be adjusted. Second opinions?

I'm more worried something in the TC is broken or stuck. Linkage would be a fairly easy fix, though. There's a vendor who sells an upgrade or you can use an old S10 with NP231 linkage.

It was 20 there with it "engaged" driving like ****, then it popped out, then 20 miles home drove great, had a death wobble at 50 that it didn't have before, got home. Engaged it in 4x4 full time, climbed a ditch, tried to put back in 2wd. ( I was slightly rolling put it in neutral, pushed lever forward to 2wd, put back in drive). But its still stuck in 4x4...

It'd be my luck. When it cools down I am going to see if I can move the linkage with my hand into 2wd.

I'm not an idiot, I know you should drive it on pavement in 4x4 but all signs indicated it was in 2wd, I thought I had a stuck break till I got there and the dam diff was steaming.... I aint going to sell it.

You don't have to shift trans to nuetral unless you go to 4lo (should also be barely moving if at all for 4lo) I don't know if that's your issue but its something to know.

47mph-54ish mph it wobbled like hell, but I do have mud on the inside of the rims. Though it didnt wobble when it was in 4x4 going to town.

Thanks, I didn't know. It being my first 4x4 I wasnt sure if you had to. I knew how to engage it, just wanted to do it properly not to mess it up, kinda like driving on pavement in 4x4....

That isn't death wobble, just so you know. That's usually caused by unbalanced tires (or mud in wheels), whereas DW is generally caused by loose steering components. If you get DW, the whole front end feels like it's gonna snap off, and it doesn't stop shaking until you stop the vehicle.

I know Im just saying I knew not to drive in 4x4 on the road. It had rusty a freeze plug in the back of the block, so I didnt get to test it other than pulling in on the dolly. Then we towed it back ( 140 miles ), but we put the tc in neurtral. I am calling it death wobble for lack of a better term, I have heard jeeps have it really bad so I assume thats what it is...
