After 40mph hug with a tree.

To stay on topic:

Xj idles just fine

After load is applied it's either fine or it will struggle and not move an inch. Until I apply more gas. Or it will start to idle very low and just die unless I apply gas.

3 things
Tps?
Cps? Wires are corroded and semi bare
Tow company also dragged it while trans was in Park.

Fix the cPs wires before proceeding any further. Route them properly per the following.

Can the electric fan itself go bad?

I just picked one up off a 97 that seemed unmolested.
Got it home mounted it plugged it in, turned on my ac and it didn't come on..

I plan on Wiring it to a switch anyways..just don't want to waste my time with a fubar fan

How long did you wait? It's not immediate like previous years. On 2000+ the fan will only come on when the engine hits 218 or the pressure in the AC system gets high enough. To test the fan just jump it to ze battery. There are fancier ways to test the system (jump relay positions, jump AC pressure switches, replace temp sensor with a resistor), but ain't nobody got time for that

Plugged it up to the stock harness,

Depends on the XJ. On an auto I'd just enable the factory high idle switch. For a manual the bike cable throttle on the shifter looks pretty sweet (helps with the lack of a third foot and the PCM doesn't have that pin soldered).

Easy peasy. Do it from underneath.
