Let the jeep warm up too 218 and see if the fan turns on if Anything. Fan turns on with AC just for extra cooling IIrC. AC shouldn't affect normal usage

Hey thanks for replying looking on craigslist I came across another jeep for $2500
95 jeep cherokee xj. It has a 8 inch lift on 35s. It has modified axles with lockers and 4.88 gears
I guess what I should be asking what do I need for mudding/rockcrawling
So year dosent matter?
What kind of mods are needed from trans to engine to suspension and differentials etc

Yeah I don't think I've let it get that hot yet maybe that's the problem. Just being to careful I guess !! It runs at a couple clicks over 210 but that's with the heater going full blast. Still trying to get all the air out of the system.

If that's an SYE in the 242 then the flange from the driveshaft on the far left needs to go on the joint on the shaft that's second from the left. That'll adapt the 242 to the 8.8.
If the 242 doesn't have a SYE then the flange needs to go on the shaft on the far right.
The shaft far left is a stock Ford Explorer shaft (I think). The shaft second from the left is a stock XJ front shaft. The shaft 3rd from the left goes on something big (No clue what). The shaft far right is a stock rear shaft.

It's hard to tell what the picture of the t-case is of. I've never fooled with a 242 but if it works like a 231 it'll go like this.

I recommend RTV around the outer flange. You can apply a tiny amount directly into the race that the seal slides into. Pretty normal for it to get scratched up during removal of old seals or snap/lock/inventnewswearword rings

'91 would be a Renix, I'm not sure if that's good or bad. If you're rock crawling, having the 5-speed will make it a bit tricky but a simple hand throttle will solve that. If he really has put work into the engine and tranny, 2k sounds good but depends more on how many miles it has.
'91 is the first year of High Output.
