XJ Ask the Question Thread
Here is a good one for you guys.........89 cherokee. It seems while I'm trying to put this thing back together the mice in the neighborhood needed to build a new house and did so in my heater box !! I had it running today trying to figure out the electric fan when it began to smoke out the cowl under the wind shield wipers. Not a burning wire smell but a dried weed smell. I had to stick the garden hose in the cowl to get it to quit smoking ! Anyway my question is if I take the blower motor fan out can I clean out the mouse house or do I need to pull half the dash apart !! I had the heater going full blast when this all happened.........do you think the heater core would get hot enough to burn a nest or are they eating wires !!!!!!!!!!!

In the market for new shocks now that my suspension is being more fine tuned. I know I need to get the compressed and extended lengths for what I need but I'm curious about the difference between twin tube and mono tube shocks so I can figure out what'll be better for my application. I know 5100's are commonly used, as are RE shocks. Any other suggestions?

Hey guys, quick question on a spur of the moment decision... my t-case blew up, so before putting the new one in, i figured why not add an SYE.. so my question is... does anybody have experience with the Alloy USA SYE? If so, would you recommend it.. and you use a stock xj shaft right? I remember hearing someone say they used a zj shaft for some reason.. which would work better and be beefier? Last question.. would it be better to try to save up the money for the Adam's Driveshaft and Offroad SYE kit with their driveshaft or would I be just as well off to get the Alloy USA one and just get one of their driveshafts later on? Thanks for the help, and sorry for the big block of text!
Anyway regarding the shafts, you need one which fits your Jeep based on lift height, rear axle, and transmission. Lift it, remove rear shaft, measure between the SYE yoke and the pinion yoke, subtract 1.5" and look below

When people say that some 96s had 27 spline and some had 29 spline are they talkin about model year 96 or build year 96? Mine is a model year 96, build date 10/95 8.25. No point pulling the cover if they didn't use 29 spline for the 95 build dates.

Model year. It will probably be 27, but if you're ordering gears/locker/shafts pull the cover and shafts and make sure

Take a picture of the pinion. I've ears that te 27 spline 8.25 has some kind of collar on the end of it and the 29 spline doesn't. Take a pic of it
