Also I found a book a couple years back when I first got my xj. Its some sort of HUGE manual that explains how to diagnose, repair, replace, remove etc. every part basically. It says its only for the 94-96 jeep, would anyone be interested in this?

I believe its the original repair book dealers used or something. Blows a Haynes manual out of the water.

Actually, the drain plug is soft and is sacrificial. IT strips and pan doesn't. Replace the plug. Clever design, eh?

So the drain plug (bolt directly under the tranny pan, for my own clarification since i couldnt find any other bolt) is replaceable? How would u do that? It didnt look removable.

And for the record the torque spec for a fill plug is I'm sure in INCH-lbs, not FOOT-lbs. So you overtighted by a factor of 12x.

Well i looked in my manual and i realized the torque specs were for the tcase plug.... but anyways the plug didnt get tight and then all of a sudden loose spinning. I tightened it, and it just got to a point where it wouldnt tighten more but would keep spinning. it didnt seem that tight though. Its not leaking as of now, and it seems its on there. Its not tight like it was when i first undid it, then again, this was probably its first tranny change, it looked like chocolate milk with a slight reddish tint lol

Im just confused on the drain plug replacement, are u supposed to replace it when u change tranny oil? I didnt see anything on how to replace it.

Is the lug pattern from a 2012 rubicon different than my 01 xj?

I think the Rubicon has a 5 on 5.5 lug pattern and the XJ has a 5 on 4.5

Yes. JKs, WK, and WJs are 5x5". Almost everything else is 5x4.5". Spacers with adapters are common, not sure if hub swaps are practical.

You would have to order adapters, just for the sake of being technical.

Factory Service Manual. You do NOT want to get rid of this!

Ever.

I have the factory electrical diagrams for my Comanche, and they've saved my *** a few times. The FSM I have for the Camaro is even better.
