i think i have an issue with my oil pressure. when my jeep idles at cold its at 40-50. once it warms up and im stopped at a light or coasting it will drop to 20. then as i accelerate the gauge will go back up to 50. is this normal or do i have an issue. im running 10w-30 with a wix filter. i have 79k on a 2000 xj with the 4.0.
Note that your sending unit and gauge aren't really accurate, for the real story you need to verify that the passage feeding the sensor is clear, and use a mechanical gauge.
Does your Jeep have an issue or are you just looking at this needle that moves and wondering?

Still trying to locate the source of the strange "squeaking" sound coming from the area by the throttle body or possibly the rear of the exhaust manifold. It sounds like exhaust or something is being forced through a small hole, but I cannot find it. Any ideas?
Also, not sure, if this could be related, but it sounds like there is a lot of clicking noises coming from under my valve cover, it may just be time to adjust the valves.

sooo. long winded post incoming.
this question is pertaining to my '96 cherokee sport with the 4.0, it also has power locks, mirrors, and windows.
the other day it rained and my power door locks stopped working. the rain dried up and they started working again, then stopped again tthe next day without it raining again first. at about the same time i removed the center console in anticipation of pulling my T case shifter (so i unplugged my power mirror switch in the process) the day after i did this it sounded like it had a hard time cranking and took a few cranks to start. now today (2 days later) i go out and have absolutely no power to anything. no clicks, no crank, nothing. when i connected cables to jump the jeep i noticed that my temp gauge tripped to max when i had power to the battery (but still wouldnt crank or anything), then dropped back down to 200ish when the power was disconnected. then after a minute of trying to start i went back under the hood and realized that my jumper cables were melting slightly, so i disconnected them. i'm not sure where to go from here. should i charge the battery with a charger and try then or go a different route?

I'm accumulating parts to do the 99+ intake swap on my 92. I've read in a few places that its not necessary to use a new gasket. Is this accurate. I don't want any leaks, but it would also be nice to not have to spend any more $$ than I have to.
which grounds am i missing?
i've done:
battery to fender
battery to block.
block to firewall (the mesh one)
i have to assume theres more, particularly for the interior stuff and the starter.
also not sure if this is related but when my power locks went out i would still hear a click under the steering column somewhere when i pushed "unlock"

Engine dipstick have grounds?
Driver's side inner fender? They're easy to spot. Start looking around. It would be nice to know what ground all those components shared and go right to it.

I am in agreement with cruiser on this one, but....
I was in a hurry to complete my swap and assumed I'd get around to replacing the gasket as some point. I ended up buying some copper gasket spray, cleaned off the mounting surface of the metal gasket (being sure not to spray or wipe any gunk into the cylinder head), made a cardboard template so the copper gasket spray would not enter the head while spraying and put it all back together. I have not replaced the gasket as of yet; it's been a year and no problems. In saying all of that, if I had the time I would have replaced the entire gasket.
