Depending on your area, you could get up to $9k for a totalled XJ with full coverage. I got $7,900 for my '01.

Any special reason that you guys ignore new people on here or is it because I am asking a question in the wrong place? If I am in the wrong place you could just tell me, I already want to set my jeep on fire and you guys are making me feel like I am in the twilight zone & you all are talking back and forth and no one can hear me because I am really dead and don't know it.

Hi everyone! I hope you don't mind me butting-in to this thread! Got a few questions about my 95 XJ 2.5TD (VM engine). I have owned it for a few weeks and it has been fine. Now, however it intermittently won't rev over 2000 rpm. I have had a look on the net and it seems to be a common issue, I have checked the following:
Turbo spins ok with no free play.
Intercooler hoses soft but leak-free and inflate when turbo spins up.
Air cleaner filter replaced (original was ancient, rusty and clogged).
Wires to No.1 injector appear to be in good condition.
EGR valve cleaned and inspected, seems ok.
Vacuum hoses ok with no splits.
Fresh tank of diesel with injector cleaner additive.
OBD self test (ignition on-off-on-off-on) gives code 12 (battery or computer recently disconnected???).
I have the following questions:
I have read the cause maybe the MAF sensor, but I can't find a it anywhere, surely it would be somewhere in the air intake circuit? Did some XJ's not have one fitted?
There is sludge in the clear bowl under the diesel filter. I have a new filter to go on but can't find any information on the correct procedure for changing it. For example, do you need to clamp the fuel lines? Is the filter housing self bleeding, or if not how do you bleed it? Do you need to bleed the diesel pump afterwards?
I apologise if these are bone questions, I am a maintenance engineer and consider myself to be a competent mechanic but I would appreciate the benefit of your collective knowledge, and any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Pete.

No idea if there's a MAF, not sure what they'd need one for.
I'd definitely start by changing the fuel filter and cleaning that mess out. You'll need to prime it afterwards. Some vehicles have a little hand pump or you may just be able to get the fuel pump to run and do it for you.

I've heard a lot of people talking about different tranny problems and I have read the replies but for some reason I have not come across any threads where anyone said that they actually lost third and overdrive.
I went and got a new filter and gasket so I can drop my pan and change the filter & fluid while at the same time I was gonna pull the wires off one solenoid at a time & run a wire from my battery and touch the blade contact on each solenoid to see if they "click" so that I can rule out bad solenoids, but today while I was driving around town(keeping it under 40 in second) my speedometer and odometer stopped working then came back on a few hours later when I drove it again. Does this point to speed sensor problem?
I see that there are 2 kinds of speed sensors- one with a metal type plunger & the other looks like about 2 or 3 inches long sealed unit type deal with a shaft like a pencil thickness. One is around thirty bucks the other over a hundred bucks. How would one know which"speed sensor" to buy if that's the problem> Havent dropped the pan yet- autozone couldn't find my filter and gasket so I went to napa & it was twice the $$$$ but got it anyway. Any tips?
1997 Cherokee 4.0 aw4 2wd. On sunday I have to work on this so the more info I have, I will have a better chance, thanks everyone. Gotta go to work now but I can't concentrate on anything cause my mind is on my jeep problem. Someone told me jeep stands for ' just empty every pocket'.. Seems to empty my own energy as well.

You will be better served by starting a new thread. This is just for one-off questions and not drawn out troubleshooting.

What was your question? They get passed over all the time.
