I'll look over the harness but i don't think thats it. To regular to be a short im afraid. Happens everytime. Im thinking something with the shifter or a signal sent during that process. I don't know anything about the NSS but possibility?

That makes it a dead short... Not an intermittent jiggle of wires.

i have a 98 gc limited. i have to replace the pass/rear taillight. Can a taillight of any model beside limited fit onto it?

Yes, any 1993-1998 ZJ Grand Cherokee tail light will work.

What Andy said sounds right. Raw wire bouncing around wouldn't cause it every single startup. Maybe sensor?
