You won't KNOW what issues a crappy oil filter can cause unless it's catastrophic. Letting your engine starve for oil on each start up repeatedly will cause damage and you won't know it. Why support a company like STP or Fram who have knowingly put out an inferior product for so many years?

Get on oil filter nipple from an HO and be done with it. 53007563AB.

So STP is a bad filter for the 4.0? I thought only Fram was bad for it.

^ Thanks. Good thing it has only been a week with STP. Going to NAPA tomorrow for a WIX. Think I should change the oil again or leave it?

I keep popping freeze plugs.. After I put new ones in when I put a new engine in the rear plug on the side under the manifold has popped out twice when ever I accelerate very hard, as in pedal to the floor. I've been using steel plugs with high temp rtv and then tapping them a little past flush. What else can I do this time?

Today I went wheeling with our local club. As we were climbing an alpine road In 4low creeping along I started heating up. Very narrow road no place to pull off. Switched on heater and kept going. Temp got up to around 250. Only for a minute. Never did go all the way to red then all of a sudden temp dropped way back down to about 215.

Did the routine about three times.

Is this my thermostat finally opening and do I need a new thermostat or what would cause this strange behavior.

Thanks

1999 Cherokee Sport I6 Automatic.

Last few time wheeling when in 4 wheel drive mode I have noticed a knock in the front left. Had a buddy ride with me, he said it sounded and felt like a front wheel bearing./hub.

Any particular brand I should look for. What brand would you advise.

1999 Cherokee 111,500 miles.

Hubs normally start squealing and whining. Grinding and knocking are signature U joint issues.

However if they're all old just replace them all at the same time. You can get Spicer 297x U joints or Moog/Precision 371. Assuming you have a proper 1999 with full-cast rotors, Timken HA597449 are the correct hubs.

Do the ZJ parking brake cable work for the disc swap? Anyother cables that work? Going to the JY in a min.

I modded the stock ones. Don't sweat that at this point.
