electric drill covered in gas that seeps out of the hole?!? Have you every looked at the little electric motor inside the drill housing? There is a live spark. If you do go that route, make sure you set up a camera for us all, and have a buddy with a cellphone standing by. No need for a fire extinguisher, your body parts would be too spread out for him to extinguish them all.

How about unhooking the fuel rail from the injectors, pump the gas out by using the pump during priming mode (if it all still works). If not I know of other ways to 'safely' do it. PM me if you need...just don't blow yourself up. Or if you do, what years are your xj's?

I probably will drop the tank. Just the two strap bolts?

Default Leaf Spring Brace

The Leaf Spring Brace on my 1998 Jeep Cherokee recently rotted and came off. When I asked my mechanic about replacing it, he told me it wasn't needed. I'd appreciate hearing your opinion about this advice.

Hi everyone.

Sorry for the possibly misplaced post, but I have not idea how to start a new thread?

My question/situation is this:

I just bought a 2000 Cherokee Sport (in a private sale) for $3500. Mechanic who checked it out thought it needed to oil pump work (at worst) and we were looking at ~$1600 in repairs (which brings us up to bluebook in good condition- which the body/interior are). This we were okay w/.

However, now that he has taken off the pan, etc., looks like the dreaded 0331 head is cracked/bad, bearings and plate bad/worn. He is suggesting a rebuilt engine from either "ATK Manufacturing" or "AER Manufacturing."

Though I drive a '93 Cherokee Sport (miles: 235K), I don't know much about engines, beyond the basics and am not sure what to do here.

Question is this: are these reputable manufactures and do you think it's worth it to sink another $4,000 into this vehicle (mileage 128K).

Thanks for your help! We need to let the mechanic know our decision by tomorrow.

The rear sway bar? No you don't need it.

Unless you tow really heavy things you shouldn't with your Xj.

Grab a junkyard engine or one from Craigslist and run it.

No way! Sounds like your mechanic is trying to screw you.

Find a lowish mileage engine to swap in for for 300 bucks and you're done.
