Do you have an aftermarket stereo or amps?

Possible vacuum leak at the engine.

Your alt has to see a certain voltage to kick on.

Possibly bad connectors. Make sure your voltage is roughly 14.25V when engine is running. If it is around 12 ish, it means your alternator is either not charging or there is a bad connection somewhere.

It is now just a hair over 14 (14.2) on the dash but last night it was reading 12 on the dash, and yes the voltage meter on the dash is accurate.

I've never heard of a car that needed to have the battery recharged separate of the alternator if it dies. That's the point of the alternator. and I've killed the Jeeps battery several times in the past and not had the same problem.

Alternators keep a battery charged under normal useage. They're not battery chargers.

Also, your battery may be getting weak?

Battery is less than a year old. About 9 months. And it charged up fine.

Edit... charged up fine with the charger.

Also like I said... if the alternator couldn't charge the battery back up they would never have invented jumper cables cause they wouldn't work.

Recently cleaned, never put grease on, never seen corrosion on my battery or terminals.

Well, some of this new fangled stuff, ya know. Voltage regulator in the PCM, relearning in the PCM after a dead battery.

That was my original issue. I haven't had it happen in a long time though, even after I recently had the battery out for 2 weeks.

I've always been able to just drive away and have the jeep run fine once I get it jumped. The alternator has always CHARGED my battery fine.

Hope someone else has an idea... like I said it's running fine now and charging fine... but I would hate to kill my battery out on the trail and have it do this...
