If I had to guess it's to take the current off of the actual switch. In the factory XJ wiring the relays are all located in the JB or the PDC, and current for everything flows through the switches. This is why the switches melt when using higher wattage bulbs and they deliver so little current. Looks official to me, but not 'factory' OE.

well guys i have a transmission problem... preface- 99 auto with motor swap finished week, flex plate and torque convertor were removed from old motor and put on new motor. jeep was a DD before piston skirt blew apart, hence motor swap. posted a couple pages ago about not starting issue, adjusted distributor and set TDC and started instantly. runs great.
new problem- will not go or move in any gear. park position makes jeep un "roll-able". when i manually shift it through the gears the only thing that changes is the engine sound sort of changes, just like it normally would, the idle changes slightly for a moment. put it in drive, rev it some, nothing happens movement wise.
trans fluid is slightly brown but not a lot. have a filter and dex/merc fluid to put in.
fluid is kinda high now, haven't drained yet, but haven't had it running much. would having too much trans oil make the trans do nothing?
tps is relatively new, but i have a warranty so i'll get a new one.
transfer case linkage is definitely working.
cable on driver side of trans seems to be working but i am no expert. if it needed adjustment would it make the jeep not move at all?
thought about TCU but wouldn't that only affect manual shifting/ shifting at all?
it will not move even a little bit, no matter what gear i put it in. AW4 with 93k miles, daily driven till recent motor issues.
any ideas?

I have, and dukie just had a problem with his. Put some dielectric grease around the plug, and put a dab of RTV on it to keep the two pieces together. Mine came loose and rusted through in six months, and I lost my headlights at 5am on a mountain road.

For that connector I put my fancy grease on the blades, slid it together, packed the ends with the wires and the space between the two connectors with dielectric grease, wiped off the outside and wrapped it nice and tight with tape.
