I know but the power at my Dads is shut off which is where my welder/tools/XJ is. Also anytime I have to work on it needs to be time spent getting it driveable. The rear axle is hanging and it needs to he moved before my Dad moves. I just explained it in grind my gears thread. Lol

Question (I'm on mobile and can't post a thread):

For a stock dana 35 diff cover from a 91 with the rubber drain plug, is it at all possible to thread in a drain plug without welding? Maybe use a grade 8 bolt with notches cut into it? I lack a welder to fully weld a nut on.

besides crown automotive all I see are JCR but i swear i've seen em somewhere else.

tap the hole (thread it) and insert bolt with rubber washer...

That's what I thought. Crown is prolly stock replacement JCR is at least 1/2" hardware for $50 I imagine the dealers/crown would be about that price or more.

This has probably been asked a lot so I don't want to start a thread for it. I just picked up a d44 out of an '87 to replace my d35. After I replace bearings and brakes, will it just bolt right in? Any modifications that are needed before I tear the rear end out of my daily driver? Thanks.

No problem. But if you don't use a rubber washer or something of the likes, it'll leak. And make sure its threaded well.

If It came from a XJ then it should bolt right in.

Yeah the pinion length is different. I'm not sure if it's similar enough to an 8.25 that a DS from one of those may work. Alternatively if one is lifted an SYE and front shaft would be a good route to take.

EDIT: did some Goggling and it seems the pinion length of a Chrysler 8.25 is nearly identical to a Dana 44. Both around an inch longer than a D35. So your DS options should be the same as if you did an 8.25 swap.
