Are the leaf springs from all xjs all the same? I think im going to buy a new 3'' lift kit, with add a leaf, and buy some stock used leafs, never used for a lift . I cant afford new whole leaf packs.

I'd appreciate any info on a weird oil pressure issue I've been having.

My oil pressure dropped seemingly out of nowhere from ~40 psi to only about 5 on the gauge. This happened about two months ago. Even if I step on the gas, it doesn't go any higher than 5, but if I'm on the highway for a while it will randomly jump up to 40, stay like that for a few minutes, then drop back to five.
Also, maybe once every other day, when I start it, the gauge will not respond at all, it will display the "Check Gauges" light, and then move up to ~5psi after a few minutes at idle.

Anyone heard of this before? Would autozone or a similar store have a manual gauge I could use and if so, where would I connect it? Thanks for any info you might have.

Though I'm afraid I can't help much, it might help others get a better idea of what you've got if you posted the year of your Cherokee, as well as the engine size.

This oil thing has me stressed, I can't believe I forgot to post that!

It's a 97 with the 4.0 and AW4.

VERIFY the oil pressure with mechanical gauge.

What brand of oil filter are you using?

Try getting a new oil pressure sending unit or get a manual pressure gauge and test it

I asked in my original post, but would a mechanical gauge be something that I could borrow from an auto parts store? And where would I connect it to the engine?

I am using a fairly inexpensive Mopar filter, time to change that up?

Rent/borrow an oil pressure gauge.

This is just an observation, but the only filters I've ever seen guys say they won't run are FRAM filters.

From the research I've done, the Mopar filters are made the same as Purolators, which are good filters. In my eyes, at least. So I think you'd be good with that filter. But- don't just take my word for it. I will freely admit I don't know as much as most people on here.

Oh, and the next time you cruise past an autozone or other parts store, swing in and see.

Cruiser: I'll call around in the morning to all the auto parts stores and see if anyone has one I can rent. I disconnect the sending unit and connect the mechanical gauge in its place correct?

Chuck: Yeah I've heard the same about Fram filters, I'm glad the Mopar one isn't a POS.

The oil filter exploded, shooting hot oil onto the tires and sending them up in smoke. At least, thats the story I'm sticking with.

Ah. So he wheeled with a D35 too.

I'd believe a FRAM exploding.

On my post last night I stated the year model wrong on my question.
I have a 85 XJ with a 904 auto, that will not change into 3rd gear. It would not go into reverse until the engine warmed up. I changed the filter/fluid & adjusted the reverse band. There was nothing abnormal in the pan. It now goes into reverse like it should but still no 3rd. Any help appreciated, or is there a thread on this? thanks.
