Nope, the adapter is supposed to be there. You can run VERY large filters, the gasket seals properly just around the ring like it's supposed to.
If you like Mobil 1 filters the M1-301 is a decent unit for (usually) the same price. Way more dirt holding capacity and gets you better flow since there's more surface area.

If my memory is correct, it was the m1 204.
But, I think we're getting somewhere. Do the filters typically screw directly to the engine (filter sticks off perpendicularly)? My engine has an adapter so the filter is actually parallel to the engine with the seal facing to the back of the Jeep. I thought this was normal but maybe it's not. If I were to use the M1 filter or any of those that are supposed to fit, the seal would be on the outside of the adapter and I'd be squirting oil on the road like James Bond.
And thanks to everyone who threw the noob a speedy reply.

I think next weekend I'll pull one of the axle shafts and check and go ahead change the diff fluid while I'm in there. Not that I'd have an option not to, lol.

Why did my gas milage go down when I put in new fuel pump module? Also when I removed the old module the fuel strainer/sock wasn't connected to the fuel pump.

Got the 235/75R15 Wrangler Radials and had them installed/warrantied through Wal-Mart. I have a vibe sometimes at speed. Driving at first yields a smooth ride, very little to no noise (only what was to be expected from 'knobby' tires). It seems like only a little while (5-10 minutes?) after cruising, I will slowly start to get vibes at 45+ mph. Evens out a little at 60 mph. It isn't constant: when I first drive it is fine. Very confusing. Brakes are not grabbing (no pulling at any time, no smoke, no smell, no pulsing in the brake pedal at all at anytime). I don't think the right rear brake line is getting hot from the exhaust? I took it back to Wal-Mart to have them check the balancing. They said all balanced fine except the right front (said it was very little off), but let me know my driver's side rear rim was wobbling a little on the balancing machine?!? I had no issues before this install. I've had rotations and balancing before on the old tires with no issues or reports of bent rims. What say the experts of CF? Should I take it elsewhere to have all tires balanced again? They also told me they had to use static weights because the backside of the rim is rusty/dirty??

Does what I said seem characteristic of out-of-balance tires or a bent rim? I'm expecting the worst now. I am going to get a second opinion. If the tires are out of balance, Walmart will be paying me the cost. If my rim is bent, I know for a fact it was fine before.
