1987-1999 would be better. Nothing wrong with older engines, plenty of new ones have higher miles. If you see a used 2000+ XJ engine for sale you don't want it unless it's been rebuilt already.

Thank you. The search for another motor continues.

So, my Jeep has been throwing Code P0420 for the longest time, on and off. I just now decided to search a bit and came across a piece of info I missed when I was looking it up before... Apparently, there was a recall for 96s where they would potentially replace the cat. I checked my build sheet request from Chrysler and there at the bottom... sure enough:

Also, our records indicate that the following recall campaign has not
been performed by an authorized dealer:

Recall # Description
E22 REPROGRAM PCM AND INSPECT CATALYTIC CONVERTER
So, the Jeep is going to go down to the dealership some time soon. Is there a way I can check the cat myself before I go down that way? Or, rather, what do they look for? Rattling? same temp in and out of the cat?

703 injector leaking at the rail end, fix that with an o-ring. But why would smoke be coming out the engine end?

I'm guessing just the gas running down and burning on the manifold. But it appears like it's coming from inside the injector hole.

If that makes any sense.

Anyone have a link to a new downpipe with mandrel bends?

Anyone know of good progressive rate coils? I found these but don't know anything about them.

Does the front sway bar on these XJs limit the wheels ability to turn out at the same time. (Pretend your hands are wheels, put them together, then rotate the tops out with the palms connected) so obviously that would be super bad, and the reason I'm asking is I know some dd without it, and I was talking to a family member about it and he said yeah that's a good way to do what I described with my hands. I looked at it and from my eyes I don't think so, I thought it would have been the track bar or tie rod due to their ability to change the alignment, making me think if they where not present the wheels would then be able to do that, I don't know, just looking for y'all's opinion?

Poly lasts longer. Minor vibes from the engine

Thats what i remembered reading and what Brown dog's site says, just seeing if anyone had any stories to sway me. My Jeep makes enough noise as it is.

Anyone know the length of the t-stat bolts? I know they are 5/16-18 thread, and I've seen 1.75" for the top bolt and .75" for the lower bolt, but the closest top bolt I can get is 2", and I will be using a washer (that will fit) and wonder if I should get a 1" lower bolt.

Thanks!

I have them on the YJ. In a rig I offroad, I'll stick with poly. If it's purely street, I'd go rubber for comfort.

You have the Poly's on the YJ?

I just ordered a set of the Rubba's for the XJ. I'll see how long the rubber lasts getting beat like it did on Saturday. The mounts have shifted and the downpipe is hitting the oil pan.
