I've got a 88 xj with a steel tank with a plastic skid on it. Everything looks factory. It has clips on the seams around the tank to hold it on. I know its not a newer style tank because I've replaced the sending unit before with a 88 replacement and that's what was in it.

It isn't really a skid; it's a debris shield. And he said steel fuel tanks were used until '97 when tanks were switched to plastic. The debris shield is standard.

Newby online so here we go. I have a 2000 Cherokee sport I replaced the battery 1 week ago thinking it was bad, not well I think it's the computer because when I try to start it will do nothing no lights, radio nothing! But here's the rub I'll turn the key back to off and try it again and it will start, sometimes, it may take a few times of turning the key back and forth. Once it starts everything is fine lights, radio charging system I thought it may even be the neutral safety switch, not! Can you please help me, Thanks for the reply.

Sounds more like bad contacts on the ignition cylinder to me. Other opinions?

Default Cherokee ever come with Sunroof?

Hey guys, I have a 2000 XJ Sport with a sunroof that I bought in October. I'm curious if the sunroof is stock or aftermarket. Did XJs ever come with sunroofs from the factory? Does a sunroof compromise the strength of the unibody at all? Thanks.

It's nothing to worry about. I've heard debates about whether they ever left the Toledo plant with sunroofs, but they were definitely sold with them on dealer lots. They're relatively rare, and they're known for issues with leaking, but it won't have a significant impact on the unibody's integrity.

Thanks for the info. Does the leaking lead to any rust problems or does it just drip into the interior?

I don't have that answer for you since I've never owned one. I hear of people resealing the glass to stop the problems. Like the weather stripping on the side windows, the sunroof seal is affected by sun and weather.

It would likely lead to another rust starting point but you'll notice water on your head before it gets to that point.

Thanks for the reply, so when I replaced the cylinder head that could of caused this problem and it's not my computer? How can this be taken care of?

Default Gen Light/ battery guage

1996 xj sport. So one day after work I started my jeep and noticed the lights go from bright to dim. Took a look at my power meter and noted it was right at the red line, but not below. Car ran fine. Generator light came on. And then after about 20 minutes of driving the gauge went to where it normally sits (just below 14).

Going to take it to autozone to have them check the alternator to see if that is the root of my cause. From a couple readings that seems to be the case for most people. My only question is, Is there a reason why the power jumps back up after driving for a while? I have only had to drive 3 times while this has been happening and all 3 times I had the same symptoms. Don't want to get stranded out here.

The power goes back up because the alt is charging the battery. If the battery is draining while the Jeep is off, it's either bleeding electricity or your battery is shot.
