I think I understand what you're asking now... lol
I'm very biased against the '96 because a bunch of parts are unique, but in XJs in general the weak spot is the body/uniframe. The drivetrain will last a zillion years, and most replacement parts are cheap and plentiful. Unless you totally kill your engine and don't have the means to repair or replace it without spending $5k, basically your Jeep's limiting factor in life is the body & uniframe.

I wish I had researched more before I bought my Jeep. I had an account here for a few months but all I did was look at build threads.

I'm having a problem with my jeep xj starting. Its the Straight 6 automatic transmission. I have replaced the ignition switch. Ignition key cylinder, and battery. The lights come on when I turn the key on and turn it all the way forward and the lights inside come on. But nothing goes to the starter. Also its a 1990 with the original motor.

I was adjusting the kickdown cable, I depressed the d shaped button, pushed in the conduit, and opened the tb to WOT, the conduit ratcheted all the way out to here, does this seem right? I'm asking because when I test drove it, I heard more of the engine than the exhaust, which did not happen before. So did anyone else have that experience or what? Also in this picture the conduit seems to be pushed in, where mine seems to be let out?

I'm going on a spring break trip with my buddy who has a cherokee. His is pretty capable 3" lift on 31 muds etc. But mine is 2" lift 235/75/15 all seasons. How capable is mine going to be compared to his? Is it worth bringing the jeep and getting crappy mpg or should I drive my car and ride along with him?

Hmm. It says "Reply hazy try again"
If you want a specific answer ask a specific question. I would say your car is way more capable than either because it probably gets better fuel economy.

I would say I'm 99.999% certain. Maybe you could have it built that way when ordering your XJ from the dealership. I wanted to change my Aw4 to an AX-15 in my 98 limited. After a bunch of research I found out that the 242 and manual will not work together. It has something to do with the FT option and depressing the clutch when switching gears.

Edit: I shouldn't have said it wouldn't work. They don't get along would be a better way to describe it.
