You cat probably IS shot. They are relatively easy to fix. Just detach the old one (probably have to cut it out), grab yourself a new one (Magnaflow direct fits go for about $70), and bolt it in place of the old one.
Would I be able to pick one up from any parts store? also once removed would a new one be relatively easy to install? the jeep is a '94 and belonged to my dad I am still trying to get a hang of fixing things with out him around to help me.

And just before everyone tells me to look up the law through the DOT I have done that as well and can't find anything pertaining to it?

I was told that if a vehicle comes equipped with doors that aren't removable it is illegal to do so. Is there a way to make a Cherokee legal with the doors off?
there shouldn't be a law like that. Usually the only things in the law that pertain to that are 1) mirrors and 2) the door sill height (which may be an issue). Best to contact motor vehicles or whatever agency is in charge of the laws and ask. Sounds like bs though

does it do it when you rev the engine in park also? If so yes it's probably a pulley's bearings going bad. Try to track it down soon before it leaves you stranded.

then it's not engine speed related and therefore not a pulley. I'm not sure what it could be then... how do your motor mounts look?

What u-joint did you get / does it take? Everything i find points to a 1-1/16 bearing cap on each side, which would point to the 2-94-28X kit. http://www.actionmachineinc.com/1310...suboltkit.aspx

i dunno though if everyone uses the other one without issue i guess you'll be fine
The u-joint I bought is the spicer 5-760x. I found a website that says the cap is 1.1888" in diameter. so I dont know what one it takes. Also the retainers I bought are the 2-94-58X. I am now thoroughly lost lol. But thanks for the help

Default 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport

I hope I'm posting this message correctly and in the right place.....

I just purchased a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport and noticed a cord was freely hanging loose around the transmission tank. This Jeep didn't come with a manual and I haven't been able to find a diagram on the net I can use so I can figure out where this cord plugs into. I tried searching underneath the jeep myself, but couldn't figure out where the cord should be plugged in at. The cord that hangs freely isn't cut, ripped, or damaged in any way. It's simply unplugged and hanging free. I posted pictures of the cord from different angles.

Does anybody know what this cord is and where it plugs in at?

Does anybody know where I can find a diagram so I can figure this out?

So I double checked my ground at the antenna mount and I realized I was getting good reading just on the ground wire connectors and not between the ground wire and the body. So I re ran the ground and now have good ground between the antenna mount and the body.

One thing that I've always been confused with though is grounding the antenna. Do I ground the antenna mount only or the mount and the stud for the antenna???

Also I just checked swr via an external swr meter and I'm getting near perfect 1.0-1.1 swr on all channels. But still a lot of static and engine noise. I can always adjust squelch and rf gain but I feel like I'm turning the ***** too far to eliminate noise.

alright so i did a quick search but nothing stating this. how did you guys that pulled the carpet and put in the bedliner remove the sticky heat shield crap? is there an easier way of removing it than a putty knife? or should i just rhino over the stuff? dont think thats a good idea as it would hinder the adhearsion of liner?

Well if your mount is all metal and you have the mount connected to metal than technically its grounded there. As for the wire I would think it would be fine just attached to the mount. Also I never use a digital device to do my swr test so do you mean it reading 1-1 or that it is reading 1.0?
I usually use and analog device to do my swr tests.
