What would cause random increases and decreases in rpm's at highway speeds? I had a problem with my NSS because it wouldn't stay in overdrive. Replaced that and thats solved. Now my rpms will go up and down about 400 randomly when im over 50 mph.

Well, come to find out it was a bad(new) remanufactured Alternator. Everytime I would try to start the Jeep with the bad one it would instantly blow the ASD fuse (Auto Shutdown). I put the second (rebuilt) but upgraded Alternator and it cranked right up. Thanks to the forum I was able to figure this one out

Brake pedal switch (probably testable somehow...)
Torque converter lockup (much less likely)

Two part question:
I've been trying to figure out what my front axle is on my 2000. From a chart I found in the stickies here it seems to be a Dana 30. Does that seem right to you guys?
None of the parts stores around me have a gasket for it and I hate using just RTV. Also I don't like that synthetic oil can't be used with it. And how hard it is to break the seal when eventually you need to. Long story short, is cork okay for the front diff?

When you go to pull the cover, take out all the bolts except the two on top, crack em loose though. Then take a soft mallet and hit the cover from the side gently until it starts leaking, let it drain for a bit, hit it some more, etc.

salad posted some possibilities. Start by looking at the switch at the brake pedal. Another test that MIGHT work is to drive using your toes of your left foot to pull up on the brake pedal and see if the problem goes away.

Believe it or not mine did this and it was the fuel pressure regulator going bad.
