I have a question but didn't want to start a new thread, and tried search but no luck. The is issue I'm having is my cruise control wont turn off. It will turn ON, and work perfectly, but if I need to stop, hitting the on/off button does nothing. I have to hold the coast button until I slow down enough and stop. The only way I can turn it off is if I turn off the engine. I'm going on a trip next week and would like to get this fixed, any help is greatly appreciated!

Does it try to keep accelerating or just keeps the light on?

I was then told that I need a new battery.
Can a working battery ( told by the jeep dealer that it was fine )go completely dead in 2 weeks?
I never drive at night so the lights have never been left on.
Have the battery load tested. It's the only reliable way to test of a battery is actually good. Voltage reading doesn't tell you much and I doubt the dealer has done a proper load test. They just want your $$.

If the load test is good, the next thing would be to look into the charging system. Search Youtube with : ericthecarguy " testing charging system" and " alternator problems". Excellent material to troubleshoot this yourself.

I also have a 96 and once the green light is on (armed) it will not turn off by pushing the button, only turning off the ignition. However, when the cruise control is 'set' at a certain speed, a very light tap on the brake pedal should instantly release it. The green light will stay on.
If the cruise control is not released immediately by the brake pedal than it should not be used or armed until fixed.
Could you clarify and report back.
The button contacts on the steering wheel get dusty on our old rigs and blasting them with compressed air helps reestablish contact. My cruise did not work at all until I did this.

The NSS does NOT affect key removal. The interlock stuff does.

like the sticky...this will be good for quick questions and answers.
I'm not new to forums but I'm by no means a seasoned vet. I've always wanted to ask, what is a "sticky".
Thanks

A sticky is a permanent thread that the mods thought would be helpful to many.
