Now the xj wont stay running. Runs for 2 seconds and turns off. Still says no bus, and the sentry key light is on which makes me believe that is the problem. Which is a pain to say the least

My XJ had an alarm in it and I didn't know until my battery got low and it chirped. Aparently, the P.O. removed most of it but the control box and horn are still wired throughout. Best buy techs (too cold this winter for me to install my own stereo) told me that may have been why my car kept refusing to do anything when I turned the key a couple times. I thought it was my starter and changed it out, along with a few other things. They said if I did a couple of key turns without fully starting the Jeep, it would kick in the starter kill and set off some lights. They recommended I come in so they can rip all the wiring out and make sure nothing is affected. Of course, I asked how much (thinking this was simple enough for me to do) and he said if he could slip it in between appts, it would take roughly 15-20 minutes and he'd do it for a 20. I guess that's low enough to make sure it's done right. This way I don't wind up in a parking lot in the cold cuz my jeep won't do anything but turn on the stereo and lights.

Blinker Gremlins
Good Evening,
I'm not new to Jeeps, but I recently bought my first Cherokee after driving my son's a few times.
I have a 99 Sport with 4.0L/Auto and she's still bone stock at 172,000 miles.
When I bought it the blinkers did not work at all. The hazards only worked on the drivers side. I replaced the blinker relay up in the dash today and now have blinkers only when the brake pedal is depressed. They work normally with the brake on (normal flash rate) but not at all with the brake off. When I turn on the head lights, they still flash only with the brake on, but at a much reduced flash rate, like every 1.5-2 seconds.
Anyone else seen this? I know these Cherokees have lots of gremlins but I haven't seen one like this in 30+ years of working on my own cars. My gut tells me it's gotta be a ground or a partial short somewhere on the positive side of the rear brake/blinker leg.
Thanks,
Joe

The process was something like keeping the ignition on for like an hour and having a special code for the jeep. the locksmith call the dealer to get the code.
If you have AAA you may be able to get a locksmith to come out for a reasonable price.

I've heard there are differences in the firewall around 87-89 on XJ/MJs. I've seen a few MJs on Craigslist 87s and 88s. Would it he possible to put a 91+ drive train into there years with a different firewall? And what year(s) are different?

That's okay. I've been hated by women before. I have 2 ex-wives. Wait, only one now as one of then died. Not even sure if the second one is still alive. Maybe none of them hate me now!!! Hallelujah.
My current wife of 27 years drives a lifted 88 Cherokee with 31s. And she's 63 years old!!
