Did u try to prime the fuel line before starting?

Is your clutch sticking? (I don't know if this is related or not)

Default Need Help

My mechanic (bf) is deployed at this moment so I am looking for some honest people for some honest answers.

I have a 2000 jeep sport v6 with 250k miles. Just today my oil pressure dropped while I was idling. Showing that I had none, but when I am driving it stays at about 30. Although, I recently just had an oil change and it was staying about 50. Untill today. When it hits 0 my check gauges light comes on? My bf did say I would need new lifters at some point but not right away. Nothing is over heating and everything else seems fine. Can anybody give me a clue to what it might be?

i would like to correct you by saying there was no V6. There was only inline 6.

Are u able to verify the oil pressure by using mechanical gauge? Did you do the oil change yourself? What color was the oil that came out? Did u check the coolant level as well?

I only know a little bit about cars and learning as I go. No, I did not do the oil change myself. Although, my jeep is staying cool just fine. The temp does not lower when idling or anything. It is just my oil pressure that was falling.

i would check the coolant level just the same. Is there any way u can ask the person who did the oil change if he remember the color of the old oil?

Yeah, I can give them a call tomorrow. I also have to say, my bf did an oil change before I drove from NC to CA. I also made sure to have the mechanic put a thing of lucas in with the oil when I got my oil changed about a week ago.

You'll find honest people here. Some of them back from deployment!

"Had an oil change done" I take it at a quick lube joint?

Looking into my crystal ball, most likely one of two things have happened:

1. They used, a really cheap bottom dollar oil filter. These filters have known issues with restrictions and collapsing internals that can cause problems exactly like you describe. This is why we recommend a filter from Purolator, WIX, Mopar, and other reliable brands. Replacing it with a good unit like a NAPA Gold will fix this. (Don't forget to top off the oil! Some will dribble when you remove the old filter.)

2. If that doesn't improve the situation, they likely smashed the oil pressure sending unit. It's right above the filter and easy to damage. Pretty common. You can rent or borrow a gauge to test the oil pressure by screwing it in to where the sensor went. The sensor is removed with just a basic wrench for this, nothing fancy. If it shows pressure to your liking then you can feel confident that buying a new sensor is all you need.

Uuuuurrgh why do people still use that ****. Literally the only use for Lucas stabilizer in a street-driven vehicle is to make the oil pressure look high enough so you can dump it on an unsuspecting buyer...

Salad is one of those honest people. He just gave you some very good advice that even a novice can handle if you aren't afraid to learn. Feel free to ask questions if you need details.

I will ask you to look at the oil filter and describe it to us, either the name that's on it or at least the color.
